Teacher workshops

Newspapers can bring excitement into the classroom and reach students who are sometimes not interested in "regular" text books.

Teacher workshops are designed to show teachers practical ways to use the newspaper in their classrooms. Our goal is not to add "another" subject for teachers to teach, but instead show them ways that teachers can use the newspapers as "a living textbook."

For example, we will show teachers ways to use newspapers to reinforce parts of speech, critical thinking, summarizing and other language arts activties. We'll also use the newspapers to show how to cover subjects such as addition, subtraction, measuring, area, percentages and other math skills.

Workshops will also cover the newspaper basics to help give teachers (and their students) an overview about the parts of the newspapers, the role of newspapers and other information.

Workshops can be held at individual schools by request and content customized for the group depending on the time available and the subject you would like to have covered.

The workshops are hands-on (and designed to be fun and casual!) and provide the opportunity to take home many activity guides.

Regional and statewide workshops will be posted on this site and announced periodically in the Union Leader.
