Rudy Giuliani has won the endorsement of the recently re-elected mayor of the state's largest city.

Frank Guinta will formally back his fellow Republican, the former New York City mayor, at a City Hall announcement scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today, and he will be named a state campaign co-chairman. The announcement will be among seven stops Giuliani will make as he kicks off a three-day bus tour of the southern tier of the state.

Guinta confirmed his decision yesterday, saying in an interview that Giuliani has "demonstrated the strong leadership that I feel is necessary to lead this country. I've seen that his approach of cutting taxes and focusing on public safety has done wonders for New York City."

Guinta said that as a fellow mayor, "I can identify with him on those things that are most important to people, making the city safer and stronger and continuing a vibrant economy. That record is what we need in the White House, and he is the individual who is most capable" of winning the general election.

Guinta said that before deciding to endorse Giuliani, he questioned Giuliani about his commitment to New Hampshire and came away convinced Giuliani "very emphatically supports" the state and the first-in-the-nation primary.

"He has spent a considerable amount of time in New Hampshire speaking with as many people as possible," Guinta said. "People who are criticizing him may know that he has the best chance to win in New Hampshire and across the country.

"I am very satisfied with the approach he and his team are making and will continue to make between now and the primary," Guinta said.

Guinta joins Executive Councilor and former Manchester Mayor Ray Wieczorek, state Rep. Steve Stepanek, former U.S. Rep. Bill Zeliff, Ambassador Joseph Petrone and his wife, Augusta, former state House speakers Douglas Scamman and Stewart Lamprey and former state Republican chairs Wayne Semprini and Rhona Charbonneau in backing Guiliani.

While I am no voter in Manchester - Frank has done a great job. The voters elected him not Giuliani to run Manchester. Inside the republican family we will have disagreements on who should run and be President, what we should not do is to expect our candidate to be everyone's candidate. I will listen as to why Rudy Giuliani should be our president, and anyone who closes their minds to that possibility are doing themself and injustice.

Rudy, Mitt and even Huckabee will protect America. Congressman Paul doesnt even blame extremists for the attacks on NYC instead he lays blame at our feet. Ron Paul simply isnt ready to lead anyone.

I was pleased to see that Manchester Mayor Frank Guinta has given his endorsement to Rudy Guiliani. I have been a fan of both Mayors for quite some time, as Mayor Guinta is one of the only rising Republicans in the state, and Guiliani is a great leader and fiscal conservative. We need a president who can achieve results from both sides of the aisle, and I believe that Guiliani can do this effectively if given the chance. Mayor Guinta understands that there is a big picture to look at here, beyond nit picking Guiliani's individual position on every subject imaginable. Strong leadership, courage, and fiscal responsibility is what this country needs, and is what Mayor guinta has given to the city of Manchester. Well done Mayor Guinta!

I commend Mayor Guinta for endorsing Rudy Guiliani for President. Rudy Guiliani, although not as conservative on social views as I, can provide leadership in this country that stands supreme to all other candidates on the Republican ticket. And to those Ron Paul supporters who are dissappointed with Guinta's endorsement, get serious, did you actually think Mayor Guinta would give his endorsement to Ron Paul? We're looking for someone to unite conservatives and all American's alike, not someone to divide us further.

As a campaign contributor to Mayor Guinta, I am very disappointed in this revelation. The fact is that Giuliani has NO REGARD for the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, and he will not hesitate to squash NH like a bug if he disagrees with any crazy-talk about liberty from our state's constituents, e.g. rejection of REAL ID or the Patriot Act, defying unfunded mandates, legalization of medical marijuana, common-sense gun laws and helmet laws, etc.

Rudy Giuliani merely did in the wake of 9/11, what any capable leader should of done. That merely proves, that he is a competent in an executive position, as Governor Huckabee and certainly Romney have done. To say this makes him a hero is extraordinarily shortsighted. For Guinta to endorse a socially liberal, thrice married New Yorker is blatantly smacks of politics as opposed to actual belief.

Being an actual voter and activist in Manchester I should say shame on those who vote Ron Paul! Get with the program to elect a President. Rudy is a logical choice for our party's nomination, not Ron Paul. Ron and all his conspiracy whacks should sign up for 3rd party and simply go away. Republicans for Victory only need apply. Rudy/Frank you guys are providing leadership while Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee only offer theories of it. Yes, I will support our only Republican Team in Rudy and Frank! Rest of you posers can sign off.
- Bill, Manchester

How could anyone that considers themselves to be a conservative
back Rudy Giuliani?
Rudy does not adhere conservative principles.

Kudos to Mayor Guinta for endorsing Giuliani... as Mayor of a city, albeit a much smaller one, he obviously gets the complexities of trying to reduce crime, taxes and welfare rolls, while promoting a better quality of life for all. Conservatives ought to vote for Rudy - he reduced abortions and increased adoptions in NYC much more than the nat'l average during his time as Mayor. And remember the smut that overran the city prior to him? Gone. Mayor Guinta, you made the right call!

An awful lot of people who helped Guinta get re-elected are going to be upset with this. I find it hard to believe he didn't notice how many of his sign-wavers and poll-workers were also Ron Paul supporters. Some politicians think they can pander to a certain segment of the population, get elected via their support, then promptly betray them when such support is no longer necessary. When election season rolls around again, they can just start all over again, hoping everyone will forget what happened the last time. If 18 months from now, Guinta is looking for help from his supporters during the last election, I think he'll find most of us have much longer memories than he expected.

It appears this will be Frank Guinta's last term in office. Too many of the people who worked to get him re-elected (not to mention too many local Republicans) are Ron Paul supporters and are going to feel slighted, to say the least.
- Michael Hampton, Manchester

That does it, I'm never voting for that guy again!

Pfffft..... It's commonly known that candidates lose their backbone when they get elected/re-elected. It is a bit uncommon that a recently re-elected conservative would lose their brain too. I am irritated, but not surprised, that of all the good-to-great GOP candidates, Frank Guinta sees fit to get in bed with Rudolph Guiliani, who is on YouTube as a cross-dresser, who "hosted" gay pride events, who promotes abortion on demand, and who has genuinely serious family troubles (amoung other faults). Guinta of course knew all this, and still saw fit to insult his socially conservative base (that helped re-elect him as Mayor), and embrace the most socially liberal of all the candidates. Now does everyone understand why the GOP is in shambles? We social conservatives are getting accustomed to such treatment, and apathy sets in.
