Someone's record on the bench is extremely relevant when deciding whether or not to vote for them. Calling this a "personal attack" is ridiculous. Answer to the charges - stop trying to distract from the issues raised.
- DL, Nashua

Doug Lambert is carrying out a personal vendetta.
Does anyone know why ?
- Tom, Conway

David,
You do realize that Dorothy is one of our County Commissioners for Carroll County and that Albany is part of District 3. It is just 20 miles or so north of Wakefield on Rte 16.

From your post you sound like someone who just votes for someone with an R next to their name, otherwise you would have seen her on the Ballot opposite of Peter Oakala and since she would have been on the left side of the ballot in Wakefield you would have read it, unless you just skip right to the R colum.

“Those who live in Glass Houses!”
- Jeff, Wakefield

I'm grateful to both the Union Leader and the "Conservative Blogger" for unearthing the "questionable decisions". Our judges and elected officials should always be answerable for their decisions on the bench, or their votes in the legislature. While I despise LIES generated during political campaigns (which US media can print, as they are excused from the usual norms of libel and slander as part of their First Amendment rights) this appears to be a simple statement of historical fact, and NOT propaganda... I think I would like to see Bud Martin's explanation of these rulings that are part of the public, historical record...
- David Murotake, Ph.D., Nashua

Peter, I say the same thing about the bluehampshire site being a mirror of the NHDNC. However, at that site it is funny to read Sullivan, Buckley, and all of the other (D) elitist argue with each other. Politics is a nasty business, which thin skinned Martin has yet to realize. Someone find me the worlds smallest violin to play for him.
- Alex K., Deering, NH

Ah the Buckley parrots have arrived and offer nothing but regurgitated talking points. Is "personal destruction" the new catchphrase from Buckley, et al party who supports a guy that cost Belknap County tax payers big time, let alone made incorrect decisions when he sat on the bench. Dorothy, it's too bad that you base your decisions on a candidate whether or not a person has a (D) or (R) after their name. I am glad you don't live in district 3.
- David T., Wakefield, NH

Wait Jeb Bradley....negative campaign. I've never heard such a thing. lol

He's been doing that for years.
- Tim, Manchester

There are negative attacks in EVERY political race nowadays, this isn't news...
- Zoot, Derry

Anyone reading GraniteGrok or NowHampshire is wasting their time anyhow. They might as well just read NHGOP press releases and save themselves some time (and spare themselves Dougie's histrionics). In the particular bits mentioned in this article, Dougie seems to have neglected to mention that a judge is required to uphold the law, not rule based on his own whims. If bail is called for, a judge grants bail. If a prosecutor can't put together a case against someone (even if it involves a bathroom), then the judge is required to find the defendant not guilty.

Basically, it looks like Dougie has some grade-school tittering about bathrooms he needs to express and he thinks everyone else will automatically find these findings 'icky' because they involve the potties. Grow up!
- Peter, Canterbury

"The politics of personal destruction--a phrase popularized by Bill Clinton during his impeachment-- was used by Clinton to deflect people from the fact that he had acted improperly in office.

So what is Martin hiding?
- Barton449, Amherst

Bud Martin has made leniency for criminals his life's work. Sure, keeping offenders out of the prison system is a noble cause... at what cost... both in repeat offenders and real dollars? As far as William's assertion that "even the DA indorced (sic)" Martin, well, he (Jim Carroll) is a partisan, card-carrying liberal Democrat. Of COURSE he would endorse Comrade Martin!
- Doug Lambert, Gilford

Mr. Bradley has used this type of politics by personal destruction in every race he has run lately. He did it with Martha Fuller-Clark successfully and thus tried the same with Carol Shea-Porter. There he did not prevail. The voting public has caught on to these vile tactics.

Judge Martin has an impeccable record on the bench. Everyone is, by our constitution, considered innocent until proven guilty. The "problem" is a decade old. Nothing occurred as a result of the ruling except in Mr. Bradley's eyes.

Unlike Mr. Bradley, Judge Martin has conducted himself the way one would expect a man of the bench...with basic good sense. This is what the people of the third district need as a leader in the Senate. Remember that when you go to the polls in April and VOTE FOR BUD MARTIN FOR SENATE.

Dorothy Solomon
- Dorothy Solomon, Albany

William, put away the exclamation points. Voters will decide whether these verdicts are unusual for Martin or illustrate a career-long tendency. Letting Willie Horton out for a weekend of murder should not have doomed Michael Dukakis except that it became a perfect illustration of his tilt toward the criminal.

Buckley's trite, wild charge of "personal destruction" began as a Clinton phrase to accuse Republicans of what Clinton was most guilty of. Republicans desiring smaller and more proper government do not destroy individuals. Marxists do. So do the other free-riding constituencies of the NH Democratic Party.
- Spike, Brentwood NH

Wait,

The problem is that he released someone on bail that was innocent until proven guilty!?! Are you kidding me? Judges release people on trial for murder everyday and you are questioning his judgement for releasing someone who was INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY!?!

The second case with the camera in the rest room, even the DA in the case said he didn't prove his case and he indorced Bud Martin.

2 cases in 30 years on the bench? Are you kidding me, there are judges that make that many questionable decisions EVERYDAY!
- William, Dover, NH

I think that by not responding to the initial charge and explaining or giving context to the rulings, Martin is doing more damage to himself. These allegations are now front and center in the Union Leader without any defense to the allegation that Martin has poor judgment.

Nice Job, Buckley, Brunelle and Elcock!
- Glen, Manchester

"Overall the ties to Jeb are obvious." Oh please... While I certainly know Jeb, and would vote for him if I lived in the District, Mr. Bradley had nothing to do with my blog postings. I KNOW Bud Martin and I KNOW his record. Based upon that, and his shenanigans here in Belknap County during the last budget cycle that blocked proposed cost savings measures, why would I want Bud Martin down in Concord in a REAL position of power? As to these "attacks" on Bud Martin... well, I did a little digging and simply discovered old newspaper articles of his actions while on the bench, and reported my findings. Perhaps if the Democrats and Mr. Martin are so ashamed of the facts, they ought to take to apologizing for them rather than getting so testy at their mention. Oh, and anybody that actually knows me is aware that, while I am a conservative, and a Republican, I take marching orders from nobody. I call 'em as I see 'em. I've been doing that at GraniteGrok since June, 2006. I promise to continue discussing Bud Martin's "long and respected (?) career" from now until the election, and beyond, until this man no longer menaces the Granite State with his out of touch, flaming liberal ways. I don't like what he did to my county, and I sure as heck don't want him working his "charms" statewide.
- Doug Lambert, Gillford

Mr. Martin If you made the court rulings in 96 & 97 then defend your rulings. Don't whine now that the facts are brought up and you obviously feel they make you look bad. Dirty tacktics are when people make up or twist the facts, appears these are true and accuate.
- realitycheck, Loudon

Gee, Mr. Martin and crew, either the statements are true or they aren't. You didn't deny them, you simply decried "the politics of personal destruction." Sooner or later that Democratic whine will cease to have any effect on a public that knows the truth.

Look, records matter. One's actions matter, and there's nothing wrong with stating facts - backed up by research - that indicate that someone is not fit for public office. Granite Grok is doing a public service. I've read statements from the Martin campaign bashing Bradley - shouldn't Jeb whine about "the politics of personal destruction?" Or is that a line that only Buckleycrats can use?
