By JOHN DISTASO

Kelly Ayotte takes a strong conservative Republican position on most of the issues, yet the former attorney general is concerned about retrospectively "politicizing" her tenure in that position.

Robert,You seem to believe that our politicians are looking out for our best interests.I don't.

I could give you example after example of one corrupt politician after another. These people have trampled on our Constitution passing law after law that does'nt pass Constitutional muster and your sitting there telling me how virtuous they are.

You would make a good communist. They don't like to question thier politicians either.
- Tim Oliver, Allenstown

She has my vote. BTW Brock, anyone with a little common sense knows that it's not the medical community pushing the legalization of medical marijuana. It's pot heads. Most of society's problems come from drugs and/or alcohol. The last thing we should do is make drugs even more available.
- Joe, Manchester

Strongly conservative? She opposed the Castle Doctrine. That tells me she doesn't have a strong pro-2nd Amendment stance.
- Jack, Concord

She lost my vote before she filed her intent to run or what have you. Her "marijuana is not medicine" quip this spring was even more odious than the governor's veto. I understand how the inevitable legalization of cannabis troubles some folk but her ignorance in the face of 71 percent support for the bill by the people of New Hampshire was unforgivable. Don't say knee jerk, false statements when cannabis has been proven to relieve pain and suffering; rather take the FLynch direction and cite "enforcement issues."

Wouldn't vote for Hodes in a billion years so I guess my search is on for a 3rd option.
- Brock Landers, Newfields

The usual seers, ouija board readers, diviners etc. would like you to think that anyone that runs for office lies, cheats, steals, stands for nothing, changes opinions and positions and on and on. These are our public servants and elected officials. Just as soon as you get off your couch and run for office and serve our country instead of harping on your own failures, I will credit your squealing. Sitting back there, the screen berets, all knowing, all seeing, and certainly all yacking. When you do the work then you have the right to make the claims. I disagree with Ayotte on just about everything but I'd choke before I would accuse her of anything with the lack of knowledge you demonstrate. You evidently do not, but a lot of people have character and honesty and exert themselves for your benefit.
- Robert, Deerfield

Dave of Dover: Wrong. Ayotte's boss, the governor, asked her to prepare a legal argument that could be used to justify the use of the malpractice fund money. She gave him what he asked for: a legal reading. The idea did not originate with her, it originated from Lynch and the Democrat leadership in Concord.
- Rick, Portsmouth

I have been watching
Kelly Ayotte's candidacy over the past couple months, and I have been
repeatedly impressed by her dedication to public service and ability to
remain independent. She has a great track record at the AG's office of
doing what she believes is right, and will be a great addition to the US
Senate!
- Maura Sullivan, Campton, NH

I believe that Kelly Ayotte's Legacy as AG will be easily defined in a couple of weeks when the NH Supreme Court issues its opinion on the removal of $110 Million from the Malpractice insurance funds. If the use of this money is allowed, the Governor is a local hero. If the use of this money is disallowed, AG Ayotte becomes the fall girl for providing an erroneous legal opinion.
- Dave, Dover, NH

Bill,Somersworth

First of all,you are correct about secret ballots, however,if she wishes to keep her vote private maybe should stay a private citizen.

I don't know about you,but I,as a conservative, want to know whether or not she voted for the Democrats in the last two elections. It would shed light on how she intends to vote in the future. If she was stupid enough to believe in Hope & Change I don't want her anywhere near that Senate seat.If she was duped once it does'nt bode well for the future. We don't need any more naieve fools in our government,we have already filled that quota.

Also, you ignored the second half of my comment.Do you really believe the Governor decides which cases to prosecute? And the AG is just supposed to go along with it and we are not suppose to ask any questions about it because we don't want to politicize it?

Lastly,do believe what a politician tells you? These people lie to your face. They will tell you anything(or omit anything) to get elected.I urge you to look at a politicians deeds, not thier rhetoric, for a clearer picture of how they are going to represent you. That is why I want to know who she voted for.I already know her record as AG and I'm not impressed. The nail in her coffin would be if she fell for the lies Obama told during the election last year. You seem to think her stance on the issues should be indication enough who she voted for,I don't.
- Tim Oliver, Allenstown

Tim, Allenstown

If I recall correctly, we vote via secret ballots here in the United States. I'm not sure about you, but I'd be more than a bit perturbed if one of the requirements for me running for political office was revealing how I voted in my secret ballot. After all, I would think that anyone who has a strong individual liberty stance would understand the right to a secret ballot. Rather, what I think we should be focusing on is her stances on the issues. This article lays out her views on any number of issues so I'm not sure what the focus is on who she voted for since you should be able to figure out her stances from the article. Her stance on abortion? Right there. TARP? Right there. Perhaps, you should pay more attention to them than try to figure out who she voted for on a secret ballot which she has every right to keep secret. Finally, I'd also encourage you to attend an event that Kelly is at if this article hasn't answered some question you have. As I mentioned before, at yesterday's event, she stayed until each individual had a chance to talk and ask her any questions they had.
- Bill O'Rourke, Somersworth, NH

Bill,Somersworth

Are you kidding?

"For once, we actually have a candidate willing to talk with consituents and answer the tough questions"

She won't even answer the question, who did you vote for in the last two elections?,and you think she is going to answer "the tough questions".

Also, you state that the AG is a non-political position then you write"Serving as AG is at the discretion of the governor and certain cases/issues might not be pursued based on the direction of the governor so I don't believe looking at what was and wasn't prosecuted is a fair way to judge her political positions."

So the Governor decides who to prosecute now?And the AG is just supposed to ignore the law?And we should'nt ask any questions about it?Wow,just WOW.No wonder this country is screwed.
- Tim Oliver, Allenstown

Kelly Ayotte is bringing forward a message that many feel in NH has been neglected; one of thoughtful conservatism. Kelly has had an impressive record as attorney general. She is equally impressive when you meet her in person. I would encourage her to enter the race for US Senate.
- Matt, Dover, NH

It's frustrating reading some of the comments of people who don't seem to understand that being AG is not a political position. Serving as AG is at the discretion of the governor and certain cases/issues might not be pursued based on the direction of the governor so I don't believe looking at what was and wasn't prosecuted is a fair way to judge her political positions. Instead, attend an event that Kelly is at. She is one of the most approachable political candidates that I have ever met which is refreshing. I attended an event that Kelly attended yesterday and she was willing to answer any question that an individual posed to her and stayed at the event until she talked to every individual who wanted to speak with her. If you have questions about her views, I'd suggest directly asking her those questions and then make a judgment on her. For once, we actually have a candidate willing to talk with consituents and answer the tough questions.
- Bill O'Rourke, Somersworth, NH

Personally, I don't agree with Kelly on every issue, but I strongly support her in this election! She is a strong leader, and her independent voice will be a wonderful addition to the US Senate!
- Jenni Rose, Seabrook

It is fortunate that we have a new face in Kelly Ayotte that will stand up for issues in he Republican Party.
- joe, manchester

Republican candidates should have their own message and campaign individually. How many times have you been to an event where there may be several GOP candidates at the gathering or on the stage yakking about "party unity" and in your heart you know there are a couple of them that you do not identify with on philosophy and their lack of principles?

I will not be too quick to join any campaign.
Though having the "party leadership" always telling me it is my duty to support Republicans and then finding out many in the "party" voted for Shaheen (3 terms) and Lynch (3 terms) does sour me on some candidates.
I find myself aligned with "Sue from Manchester" nearly all of the time, and many times "Spike."
bnyoung@metrocast.net
- Niel Young, Laconia

Let's see,she does'nt want to politicize her past as AG,yet she is throwing her hat into the political arena?

Where do we get these idiots? So Kelly, does this mean we don't get to ask you any questions regarding the decisions you made during your tenure as AG?Like your refusal to prosecute voter fraud in this state? How convenient.

I don't know what this country did to deserve the criminals that run this country but I am sick of it.Unfortunately the press is complicit as it has abandoned it's role as the watchdog of government(unless of course that politician advocates for smaller gov.,then everything in thier power will be done to bring him/her down) and become its biggest cheerleader. There is so much corruption that is waiting to be exposed yet is ignored(Acorn anyone)because they know it would hurt thier precious government programs.

Please Kelly, save the people(and your money)of this state and don't bother running. We don't need another windbag in office. We need some who is willing to stand up and shout what he/she believes in and let the chips fall where they may.Not another politician who is unwilling to answer politically tough questions.I mean, your so much of a coward you won't even tell us who you voted for,gee I wonder why?It smells like BO.
- Tim Oliver, Allenstown

She continues to impress--her remark against government "picking winners and losers" explains not just her position but the reason for it. Perhaps we have a Republican candidate who can TEACH liberty to those on the fence. But Kelly, "tax credits for business" is exactly "picking winners and losers." If you "believe in the free market" then you cannot believe in having politicians manipulate it with subsidies.

Her refusal to "politicize" her service as AG stands in opposition to Obama and the Clintons, who shamelessly reinvented their personal past to score points, but will backfire powerfully if she subsequently touts any conservative achievement of her AG service.)

But she does continue to duck issues; of course she will have to "take up" Roe v. Wade, every time a new judge comes to the Senate for confirmation. For this she has already paid the price: the attractive, accomplished candidate favored by the Washington partyocracy already has two pols and two private citizens lining up to oppose her in the primary. Bring it on! she needs to be tested.
- Spike, Brentwood NH

Well done, Ms. Ayotte. This should put to bed many of the whispers coming from the NH Democratic Party.
- Francais Greene, Plymouth, NH
