A Peterborough man remains hospitalized in satisfactory condition this morning after he and his brother were injured in a crash on Route 101 at Old Peterborough Road in Temple.

Cody Partridge, 19, was airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon early Sunday afternoon for treatment of injuries. A hospital spokesman said today he is in satisfactory condition.

His younger brother, Sawyer Partridge, 15, a passenger in the car, was also injured. He was taken to Monadnock Community Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The hospital released no information concerning his condition.

The crash happened when Cody Partridge was driving a Honda east on Route 101 about noon Sunday. The car crashed into a utility pole at Old Peterborough Road.

Temple Fire Chief Michael Connolly said sparking power lines prevented emergency workers from immediately cutting him out of the wreckage. Cody Partridge was trapped inside the car for about an hour until power was shut off and rescue workers cut away wreckage to free him.

Connolly said the pole was snapped in two and part of it landed inside the driver's section of the car.

He said live wires that dangled from the pole left standing began to spark, setting it on fire. Rescue workers could not get near the car until Public Service Company of New Hampshire shut down power to the lines.

"The pole was starting to catch on fire. We could not risk the lives of all the rescuers. The way the person was trapped (inside the car), we had to wait for the power to be shut off," Connolly said.

Police said Partridge may have swerved to avoid colliding with a car that pulled out of Peterborough Road.

According to family members, the brothers were headed to Brookline to visit their father.

State police are investigating the crash. Anyone with information concerning it or the other vehicle that may have been involved is asked to call State Police at 672-3333.
