To Michael Bellefeuille, Bedford, NH:
Your ignorance about radical right wing is breathtaking. It is a fact that the international bankers and big corporations were solidly behind your Messiah, Obama. So your statements sound foolish and ill informed.
It is no wonder since you come from the richest town in the state, where there are many other party of the rich Democrat elitists.
NH Republicans are the grassroots that have kept this state as good as it is and why people want to move here. This last election donations figures prove who the party of the rich really is. Your party of the rich is the Democrats who are, as Sununu has said, RUINING NH.
And their corporate interests are who funded and put these people in office including your fake prophet Obama.
- Sue, Manchester
Fergus, Please stop the lies taking credit for what you feel are GOP gains. You took cheap shots in the Press at our National Committee Woman and other prominent "Worker Bees' in the party.
When at the RNC they had to issue an APB to find you when State Party business needed to be done!
Please leave Public Service, we all know you had Fergus Service in mind with that
kindergarten badge you wore everywhere chasing the press, what was it now? Angus?
Go away far far away! Take the lies with you.

John from Rye Beach is a left wing democrat (sorry fo the redundancy) he doesn't need proof. He is just another peaceful, open minded, tolerent koolaid drinking, lazy fool who couldn't come up with an original thought if his life depended on it. I actually feel sorry for people like him.
- Allan, Rochester
He John from Rye beach, I see no evidence that Sununu is a "raging anti-semite". What do you have to back up your statement?
- Jack Langley, Hollis
Ya, put up a raging anti-semite as leader of the state GOP, and then wonder why you guys keep on losing.
- John, Rye Beach
As a Republican I find this new very bad. Sununu is a washed up blowhard getting endorsed by Cullen who couldn't lead a troop of girl scouts. Another nail in the Republican partys coffin.
- Tom, Manchester
I regret that people have trashed Cullen, however I am optimistic of seeing the experienced leadership of Sunnunu bringing forth a new fresh glimpse of what conservativism really means. Let's hope these next 4 years we can make a difference.
- Jim Duyon, Salem, NH
To Mr. Cullen, thank you for your service. Whether someone agrees or disagrees with how you did things, you served and I thank you. It's easier for us to blame you for the republican party failures than it is to look in the mirror. Now let us get back to our Conservative roots and make our Country a Democracy again. The first step is to stop calling the democrat party the "democratic" party, and demand the media does the same.
- Allan, Rochester
4 years ago there were almost 300 Republicans in the NH House, 18 Republicans in the NH Senate, all 5 GC members were Republican & the Governor was a Republican. All these Dems who think they OWN NH are in for quite a jolt in 2 years.....now that the main problem for the Republican party George W, Bush is leaving the scene the NH Republican party will make a come-back.
NH was never as Republican as some people think (check out the late 70s early 80s) and it's not as liberal as it seems now. Once these budget problems that have been created by the Dems become an issue EVERY day next year you will see this so-called Dem surge fade away.
- Jay Collins, Laconia
Sununu will be a disaster as Repub state chair and, as a Democrat, I wholeheartedly endorse his candidacy. It's also wonderful to see so many Repubs speak about how the party needs to become more conservative and exclusive. Keep those litmus tests going --- don't let pro-choice people have a voice; don't let gay men and women have a voice; don't let liberal and moderate Repubs have a voice. Just stay conservative and exclusive. I know that former Gov. Sununu will hew to that "us against them" ethos and, baby, that's music to this Democrat's ears!
- mark richards, Dover
Wow. I didn't think Democrats could get this lucky.
So let's see; the Republicans get their backsides handed to them for the 2nd election in a row because it finally became obvious to everyone that they were the party for corporations and the rich, and they had become so blatantly arrogant after winning the White House twice in a row.
So, after getting wiped out the second time, they go out and get someone who is cold, aloof, and arrogant to "remake" the party and lead them to future success? In a state that is moving towards Democrats, Sununu is going to save your party? Yahoo, I love this type of thinking...
Is he brilliant? Sure! Does that translate into electoral success? This is someone that doesn't care about poor children, healthcare, education funding, and people think he is going to lead the Republican Party in NH back to relevance?
I guess I could be wrong, but I'm seeing Democratic success being cemented in place by this move...
Enjoy!
- Jay Cortado, Atkinson
The Republican Party in NH has been a disaster under its current leadership. To suggest that Cullen go on to the Senate is like shooting ourselves through the other foot. We need to purge the party of RINO’s and distinguish ourselves as traditional, constitutional Republicans who believe in small government, low taxes and individual liberties. “Main Street” is a profoundly failed tactic - it and its promoters should be dumped.

Christmas comes early for the republicans. Thank you, Thank you Thank you Governor Sununu.
- joekelly, manchester
Governor Sununu has been needed in a public leadership role in NH politics for a very long time.
Hopefully he will promote the fiscally responsible policies of his early political career that lead to his remarkable success during the eighties.
And just as hopefully, he will reject the irresponsible policies of tax RATE cuts that cut government revenues below expenses, causing inexcusable government deficits.
During his last term as Governor he cut the BPT from an effective rate of 9.56 % to 8 %, and that contributed to the deficit he left NH in that final term as Governor. It was a sad and unnecessary blemish on a very important and successful gubernatorial career.
If he trusts his fiscally responsible instincts he may once again regain support for his Party from Independents who simply could NOT get enthused about his son's last campaign for the Senate after he supported the Bush tax RATE cuts that cut government revenues materially below expenses in a relatively good economy, doubling our nation's debt.
Governor Sununu was a constructive force in the first Bush administration, pushing for tax RATES that were more in line with expenditure, and fiscal responsibility.
Republicans will prosper if Governor Sununu learned the right lessons from his vast, and mostly constructive and productive successful political career.
We all should wish Governor Sununu the very best, and support him as vigorously as we can, where we can.
Governor Sununu is truly one of the very best NH politics has to offer.
- Bob Jean, Northwood, NH
This is a start. Sununu is smart, and has the guts to stand up to this leftist trash that has infested our state. It's up to the rest of us who care about NH to stand up and fight for this state before we become Massachusetts-North !!!
- Jay Collins, Laconia
Fergus needs to check out of the GOP unemployment line and look for a private sector job that is mindless and requires little physical exertion.
- tom, hebron
Fergus Cullen endorsing big John Sununu for State Chair would normally be a kiss of death but in this case the former Governor can survive this anvil around his neck however all that is needed here is for Fran Wendelboe to back him and his efforts are in big trouble. Let's hope that mal-content Fran will spend her time tyring to save the Reagan raft before it founders and his canonization fails. Please no more bad news we have already lost one Sununu, let's not have a repeat performance
- Richard L. Fortin, Manchester
Cullen is out and MacDonald must also go. He had his chance to run the party and he blew it. Losers don't get to dictate terms. The question is whether Sununu will lead the party with Wendelboe as Vice Chairman or vice versa -- and the advantage goes to Fran. If Sununu wants to take a stand, he will insure that MacDonald also falls.
- Steve, Manch
I'm very happy about the permanent Democratic majority this state will enjoy now that the party of big corporations is about to be run by this arrogant, disgraced, radical right-wing blowhard!
- Michael Bellefeuille, Bedford, NH
Excellent that papa Sununu listed what he sees as "Republican traditions." Oddly, Judd Gregg did the same thing on your pages, but Gregg added "environmentalism," which in practice means the threat of state force to override individual decisions on the basis of aesthetics, speculation, and whim. I'd like to hear what Sununu thinks about this, and whether Gregg's National ID card and amnesty for foreign invaders are compatible with Republican traditions. And please tell us where bipartisan bailouts for everyone "directly or indirectly affected" fits in.
- Spike, Brentwood NH
Great news for NH GOP. After years of the Democrats like Buckley verbally trashing Republicans in this state, we now have a very assertive and vocal individual to stand up for Republicans and their beliefs. Bring on 2010!
- Ryan Feltner, Manchester
Fergus for State Senate!!!
- Tim, Rochester
As previously printed in this paper
"Sununu also seems to forget what he did to Judd Gregg. On his way out the door, Sununu took money from reserve funds, delayed paying bills and claimed he had left incoming Gov. Judd Gregg with a surplus. Actually, it was a deficit. I remember that Gregg worked with lawmakers to scramble to close the gap in the last six months of the budget.
Instead of a $10 million surplus, he left us with a $13 million deficit at a time when the economy was vibrant.
At the time, we called it "the Sununu deficit." Sununu left New Hampshire to become President George H.W. Bush's chief of staff. Sununu employed the same style in D.C. that he was known for in Concord. When he got caught using government transportation for personal use, such as ski trips and dental appointments, well, that's just the kind of misjudgment Washington needed to show Sununu the door.
Short-changing school kids, cooking the books to give the appearance of a balanced budget, violating the public trust by using government-provided transportation for personal use: what a legacy."
- Scott, Candia
All the Civility in the discourse between the state GOP and Democrats didn't stop the Democrats from running some of the nastiest attack ads and clean sweeping Democratic Victory in 2008. Fergus; nice guys finish last. I am glad Gov Sununu will be running the state GOP. No need to be Civil when you are a political minority. Just look at the Massachusetts GOP.
- Chris, Merrimack
Cullen is delusional. If Sununu wasn't interested, Cullen would have had a hard time succeeding against just about anyone.
- Pete, Manchester
Fegus Cullen is an extraordinarily articulate and accomplished young man. It would be a serious waste of talent if he were allowed to simply fade away.
Please make him post bail before he goes out the front door, so NH Republicans can call on him again...
