By JOHN DISTASO

Democratic Presidential candidate Chris Dodd of Connecticut is among those occupants of the second tier that less experienced but better-financed and more well-known candidates Hillary Clinton and John Edwards would apparently like excluded from future debates.

Watch the shake down. Dodd certainly is not peaking too early. He has a great personal presence and ideas that can resonate with all Americans. He's a guy to watch.

The suggestion to limit the Democratic contenders reminds me of the Muskie effort to keep George McGovern out of the '72 Primary. A petition was originated and signed by almost every heavy-weight Dem to support Muskie for all he had done over the years to help the State Dem Party and to discourage any other entrants. Serving as a young State Senator it didn't seem right to me so I declined and that is how I eventually became Sen. McGovern's Fiscal Agent and his leading Delegate to the '72 Dem Convention in Miami
