Emotions surge at LaBarre trial
By RUSS CHOMA

As prosecutors began their case against Sheila LaBarre with graphic testimony of how she destroyed Kenneth Countie's body, his mother, Carolyn Lodge, let out a loud, apparently pent-up sob.

I firmly believe she knew what she was doing to these men, and enjoyed the power. I also firmly believe she is insane, but to blame her mental illness on abuse? No. Its called therapy, and someone should have demanded she get this a long time ago. It also sounds like these two gentle lost souls are products of "out of sight, out of mind" for the parents, and the law enforcement. Its a tragedy that the police didn't do something, especially knowing she had firearms with out a weapons permit. Now, the police today pull over and give a ticket for driving 5 miles over the speed limit, but they couldn't prevent this? Why are they there? To serve and protect? Who? Oh..I guess to protect the people they choose to. I hope this police department and state police that was involved can sleep at night knowing that they failed miserably at their job because someone was a constant thorn in their side.

The Countie's did go to get him. They went to the police more times than I can remember. The police said she would shoot them all if the "trespassed". Those cops can live knowing it's their fault they didn't save Kenny at Walmart. Kenny was too injured to ask for help - his appearance was screaming for help and they let him die.

Sam,
Just because it doesn't say it - doesn't mean it didn't happen.
How do you know Ken's family didn't call the police and try to get him out of there?THEY DID - SEVERAL TIMES..
He also went to Epping to get him, but was told "she had several guns - do not approach her."
The family did not find out about the Walmart encounters until after he was gone..
It's so wrong on all levels..

If she thinks most men are pedophiles, how come she keeps searching for relationships with them? And why is she selective in her choice of man? Why does she look for mentally challenged and/or meek men?
Personally, I think she's into power over these poor guys. I think she gets sexual satisfaction out of hurting them and putting them in humiliating situations.
I agree with Tonya: LaBarre knew what she was doing all along. She just thinks she's a little smarter than everybody else.
By the way, is there a record that she ever married LaBarre? Why are we calling her LaBarre in the first place? And how did LaBarre die? From old age, or natural causes?

Theirs a lot of People out there that have been abuse , But don't go to the extreme that she has, When she was talking with Mr. Countie SR. on the first call , she didn't seem to be insane during that conversation with him , She knew what she was trying to tell him ....
and , I agree with Big J, Manchester all the way she just using the system. and using our tax payers Money .

However the law may intend to prove that Ms. LaBarre is insane, it remains a fact that she had enough presence of mind to bait and trap these men for the purpose of destroying them. And, having done it once, and being aware of the fact that she did it because she believes all men to be sexual deviants of one kind or another, to me this reeks of premeditation!
I believe that she singlehandedly desired to rid the community of men she believed to be pedophiles and was willing to torture and kill to accomplish this, and then to attempt to destroy evidence. Does it not seem that we perhaps would be calling this a serial killer were it a man?
I, am a woman and I believe Sheila LaBarre to be a serial killer. There is no other explanation that should satisfy those who hold her future in their hands. She knew what she was doing when she placed the ad and she knew what the outcome was going to be once she had them in her home. That is cold blooded murder no matter what other circumstances you may attempt to attribute to this case.
Thank you.

Hope, we don't execute the insane. If Ms. Labarre is found insane she will be committed, not free.

Why didn't the police do anything? Unfortunately, police respond to so many domestic disputes it ties up most of the day and night. They can't make someone leave. If either man wanted to stand up and leave or say Help me, the police would have helped them leave. Do I think they should have done more? Yes. But read a few police logs on domestic disputes, if they show up and both parties say everything is fine, they don't do anything and leave. If one person states they were struck by the other, someone is arrested. Unless someone claims abuse, the police can't do much. They could have assumed that the men were self mutilators. However, the family could have done much more. Go to the home, see your son, make a judgement and either bring them home, or let them be. Obviously there is no excuse for Ms Labarre to do these things, but there were signs, this could have been prevented if everyone didn't turn a blind eye.

I believe she is insane. If one is so insane as to torture and kill than that person is too dangerous not to get the death penalty. A cruel mean sane person might be taught a lessons with life imprisonment (we all know that it is never really til they died) but one insane--that can't ever be inn society so death penalty is the best solution and probably most humane. certainly a lethal injection and burial is much better than what she did to these men.

Good question, Mr. Marks. Based on testimony at this trial Law Enforcement never adequately checked on the welfare of Men living with Ms. LaBarre. A welfare check usually encompasses at least a discussion with the person being check on. It is outrageous that Police viewed this Man being pulled up to a window by his hair and Police suspected nothing and left? Another situation where Police intervention could have saved a life.

While I agree that she is mentally ill (clearly!), that isn't the question. The question is DID SHE KNOW WHAT SHE WAS DOING? If you are taking crowns out of people's teeth in order to hamper the ID process, then you obvioulsy know what you are doing.
I am a supporter of capital punishment. Esepcially in cases like this one. All the therapy in the world isn't going to "rehabilitate" this person. I hate to think that my tax dollars are spent keeping monsters like this alive in jail with access to things like education, Cable TV, or anything else. I'd rather spend that money on educating our children, or improving our environment.

If the father, Mr. Countie,Sr., heard his son screaming to him in pain, while on the telephone Why didn't the father, call 911 or authorities, in regards to his son.
I've been following this trial closely, and from what I've read about the Epping Police ,actually seeing Kenneth at Wal-Mart and the conditon he was in and not intervening, and then reading how is father heard him screaming in pain, you begin to wonder, what were the police and Mr. Countie, Sr.,afraid of!!!
- Sam, Marks, Epping, NH
So every child that had to depend on themselves that grows up still thinking that they are the only person they can depend on and the only person they can trust are able to use this as an excuse. I understand that psychologically it may be disturbing and maybe dillusional but for whatever the reason, this is no reason to kill someone else. There are plenty of people who are abused and neglected. The only option is treatment, because if we start using these 'reasons' one day people who are abused and/or neglected will automatically be assumed defective. Personally, she went through way too much effort to not know what she way doing, she's lucky we have a judicial system because she is being treated pretty fair and being kept safe.
