I jumped ship and went to Comcast the month they took over...mainly to get internet service that is faster than dial-up. I couldn't get high speed internet service from FairPoint as it was not available in my Nashua neighborhood. That phone company is going the way of the single-channel UHF over-the-air subscription TV industry. They cannot keep doing what they are doing so they will be as irrelevant as the Ice man and the buggy whip industry.

Cable revenues in phone/internet have jumped. Again I ask, what influence did they have on the PUC decision letting FairPoint in against all warnings and experts advice.

I've been pretty neutral about Fairpoint so far, however the belt needs to tighten and focus set on staying afloat.

It is unfortunate that Fairpoint management doesn't understand that 7 Mbps DSL might be ok today, but will not even be a contender in 12 - 18 months as cable modem service continues to up the bandwidth. 7 Mbps will be considered similar to how dial-up is today.

Fairpoint's main focus should be (in my narrow view):

1) Providing CLEC's with dedicated circuits
2) Providing their own customers with dedicated circuits
3) Providing top quality and high bandwidth Internet access

The rest of the business is a dying breed. Forget trying to bet the farm on selling local POTS lines and switched toll service to end users.

The past 15 years has been a revolution in this arena, and continues to be.

Unfortunately, Fairpoint doesn't want to accept that they must adapt as time goes on.

I dropped them within a month of the switch. I had a small business package with Verizon and when the switch occurred my rates went up a little over 50%. Subsequently, they have sent me bills for a couple of months after I canceled and they still haven't corrected that issue. They agree that I don't owe the money but their useless computer system keeps billing me. The NH PUC ignored all the warnings about the poor financial condition of Fairpoint and their service is absurd. They should change their name to Pointless.

Looks like everyone must be moving to Cable, Satellite, cell phone or Voip phone service. Guess I wasn't the only one. I have Voip. It's cheap, great quality and I love it. I just wish I'd made the switch sooner. I wonder what will actually become of Fairpoint now? l am still thinking they will dry up completely sooner or later.
