Jonathan Charbonneau shot his wife in the head and chest, and then shot himself in the head with the same rifle, according to the state Attorney General's Office.

New Hampshire’s Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jennie V. Duval ruled Melissa Charbonneau's death a homicide and her husband's, a suicide, after performing autopsies on both bodies.

Police continue to investigate Thursday's afternoon shooting at the couple's home at 223 Jewett St. Mrs. Charbonneau, who had a restraining order against her husband, went to the home with her father, John Cantin, 57, to collect some of her belongings.

Jonathan Charbonneau Sr., 32, was inside the home and he fired a rifle at his wife, wounding her, and then shot his father-in-law twice in the back as he tried to carry his wounded daughter out the front door, neighbors told the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Wounded, Cantin dropped his daughter and half-crawled, half-walked in to the street while Charbonneau allegedly fired one more round into his wife's neck, friends and neighbors said.
