Kelly Ayotte has been a fantastic AG and she would make a great Senator!
- GM Torosian, Nashua NH
Sen. Judd Gregg speaking about the nonsense taking place in gov't today?
He is part of the problem. I respect Judd. I respect Kelly as well. They are good people with good hearts. BUT they represent their interests not ours! That is why I will not and have not supported them. This is exactly why Kelly left office.
It was in her best interest. Palin did the same and Judd leaving office is the same.
Representing the people these days is representing one's self interest first. We the people are left hung out to dry. This needs to change. A contract is a contract is a contract. If you said you will be there for us we need you there for us! What kind of mentor or leader quits because it is convienient or because things changed.
- Paul Kelly, Stratham
Kelly Ayotte is a mushy mouthpiece for whomever she is speaking for at the moment. She is clearly planing to ride the great victory won in the Briggs case -- a case that was hardly difficult. In the meantime she declines to take into account the many many in NH who believe the death penalty is barbaric. She is unqualified and she will fade out and regret throwing away the career that frankly, was a gift she didnt deserve.
- sam mcguire, pembrke nh
Ayotte should run for governor and leave the Senate slot for Sarah Palin.
- Andrew J. Manuse, Derry, NH
Kelly Ayotte stabbed gun owners and other average citizens in the back when she instructed her office to take a position AGAINST the Castle Doctrine legislation this past year, telling the citizens of NH that she thinks gun owners are violent vigilantes and that she wants to empower criminals.
Additionally, Ayotte stepped far outside of her bounds when she lobbied the Legislature AGAINST medical marijuana. So not only is she wrong on the issue, she goes outside of the bounds of her office to make government bigger and more intrusive. That's right, if you have cancer, MS, or Crohn's Disease, you should only take government-approved medicine or you are a criminal who deserves pain, suffering AND jail time!
Not to mention her opposition to expanded gaming here in NH, which a majority of people are for and would be overwhelmingly beneficial to our economy.
Is there any doubt that Kelly Ayotte would vote for more bailouts, more spending, more war, more debasement of the US Dollar? Is there any doubt that Kelly Ayotte would have nothing to do with the fight for more liberty, less government, less spending, etc?
She's not the kind of person I want representing New Hampshire Republicans! Just what we need, another ant-gun, drug warrior statist. NO THANKS!
If we are going to have a liberal in the US Senate who will end up being part of the problem in Washington, it might as well be Paul Hodes, and not a "Republican"!
- Andy Demers, Manchester
Kelly Ayotte can explore the Senate race. And she can explore running for Hodes current congressional seat as well. She has plenty of time. And she has lots of options. And she has plenty of skill, competency, and plenty of political validity.
Democrats who attack Ayotte also attack Governor Lynch's judgment.
That seems like dumb politics to me.
- Bob Jean, Northwood, NH
This is the same woman who opposed expanded gambling people.
Nice of her to help shoot that down under the guise of her AG position while she already had in her mind that she would be quitting.
I'm not interested in supporting any future politician who doesn't support the will of the majority of the people.
How much credibility will her promises hold on the campaign trail when her promise of serving at least *one* full term as AG is so easily flushed?
Another flip-flop quitter sorry to say.
- Jeff Baxter, Manchester
Michael King: I dont know where you get your information but Attorney General Ayotte was one of the many who agrees that the Second
Amendment right to bear arms is a fundamental individual right and signed the amicus brief.
And I thank her for standing up in support of our Second Amendment rights.
- Rob, Milford
Well, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly get ready for the political wars: are you pro-life, have you run a business before, are you a Lynch sympathizer and what can you do in Washington, DC better than Paul Hodes. Neophyte. Whole different ballgame.
- Jack Truman, Middleton, NH
What is Burling talking about?
"A whole lot of people decide they know everything and can go right to the U.S. Senate without the experience of knowing what constituent service is like, or knowing what the day to day experiences of ordinary citizens is like."
What, you mean like.... Al Franken?
- Mark, Amherst
So let me get this straight. It is OK for Obama to spend 18 months running for President while a US Senator. He collected a paycheck while running for another office, one which took all his time. So obviously he could not do a very good job representing the people of Illinois, but because he is a Democrat that is OK.
Ms. Ayotte resigns so she can pursue her political career and not have the people of NH suffer because she cant perform her job and this is wrong?
The hypocracy from the left is just unbelievable. But that shouldnt come as a shocker to anyone.
- Bob Hunnefield, Manchester
Why isn't there an editorial ripping Ayotte for quitting like there was yesterday ripping Palin for quitting. Now that's hypocrisy.
- Tim, Manchester
Putting criminal in jail is easy, exercising the legal and constitutional duty to protect the citizens of this state against the abuses and civil and constitutional rights violations by the three separate braches of government is one area Ayotte failed the citizems of the State of NH. Ask her own staff what's her civil rights record. Ayotte didn't resign, she was forced out because she was being exposed by people like me for who she really was.
- Ralph Holder, Newton, NH
Kelly is a sharp, intelligent and thoughtful woman. I have seen her speak at a program where she discussed work-life balance. This is a woman who gets it - and will represent what is important to so many in our state. She has my vote!
I am always so proud to be from NH when I see Sen. Judd Gregg speaking about the nonsense taking place in gov't today. If he is choosing to retire - I will be just as proud to see Kelly in his seat.
And Sen. Gregg - perhaps a presidential run would suit you more than retirement!
- Michelle Strout, Manchester
AG Ayotte is precisely the kind of aspirant the Republican Party in NH needs as a candidate.
- Conrad Hermsdorf, Hooksett
The democrats are attacking pretty quickly...sounds like they may be a little worried. Buckley says she broke her promise...putting politics before public service. But isn't political office public service? And Burling says she should start at the top, but just look across the Connecticut River at the Dems golden boy Leahy. Attorney for Chittenden county until he was elected as, you guessed it, Senator.
- Steve May, Manchester
I'd have a lot more respect for Ray Buckley if just for once he'd stop being a negative partisan. How about taking the high road Ray and thanking Mrs. Ayotte for her service, wishing her well, and that you're looking forward to a spirited exchange of ideas in the Senate race? Just my $0.02 Ray, but us voters are really, really sick of negativity and political bickering. Your comment has backfired Ray; I look down on you, not Mrs. Ayotte.
- Bryan, Nashua
Credibility? She sent her lackey to a state house committee to tell lies and fabrications at the medical MJ hearings, stuff so outrageous it reminded the audience and committee members of the propaganda movie "Reefer Madness". Most definitely out of touch with New Hampshire.
Also, she is a lawyer, and is therefore unfit for serving on a law-making body. That is an obvious conflict of interest.
- Ron Helwig, Deerfield
Finally some good news for Republicans...she could be President one day!
- jay tiffany, warner nh
When are you Republicans going to learn that a pretty face does not trump shirking ones responsibility? Brought to you by the Sarah Palin book of quitters. She made a promise to the Governor and to the people of NH that she’d stay her full term but now a better offer comes along and that promise means nothing. If she gets an offer from Faux News is she going to quit the senate in a year?
It doesn’t matter anyway, the Republican Party is circling the drain and NH voters are far too smart to fall for just another pretty face. Good luck Kelly but unless you can change the entire party in one shot then you can’t be of any help to NH.
- Jim, Raymond NH
Buckley...you are an a**. Cant waitt o start taking digs at a fine woman who has given her all to make this a safer state.
I am sure she will do fine in her Senate ambitions and represent the state well.
Havent you ever done anything to further your own ambitions? That is except shoot your loud mouth off!
- John, Manchester
This is a sad day... I believe Kelly Ayotte can do just about anything, but she was a fantastic Attorney General. New Hampshire will lose on one end, but gain on another. Good Luck Kelly!
- Gary Palys, Allenstown
Do we want a Senator who 1st of all is against the "Castle Doctrine"? That is the right/protectiion from prosecution of defending yourself in your home from intruders/robbers? She sided w/the NH Policer Chiefs Association, as I recall who are against the Doctrine. By the way why would the Police Chiefs Assocation be against that right? Or are they presuaded by the "Just Us (Justice)" mentality? 2nd, and just as important, she blocked an ivestigation by Jim Reams, Rockingham County Attorney into the Drunken on duty brawl by the NH Drug Task Force. Do we need another aletist as a Senator?
- Michael King, Epping
I'm going to spell this out so even a dolt like Ray Buckley can understand it: John Lynch was appointed to a position at UNH by governor Benson on the condition that Lynch not run in the next election cycle against Benson for governor.....Lynch lied, quit the position, and ran against Benson. That's politics Ray.......we don't forget these things so easy in NH. Buckley & Sullivan haved degraded public discourse in this state for long enough. It's time to send the NH democrats away.
- Jay Collins, Laconia
' "State Democratic Chairman Raymond Buckley charged that Ayotte is breaking her pledge to serve a full term and is "deserting the people of New Hampshire in favor of personal ambition. Not unlike Sarah Palin, Kelly Ayotte has broken her promise to the people she represents and put politics before public service." '
Chariman Buckley: How is this any different from Barack Obama serving his Illinois constituents for 2 years before being elected as POTUS? This is hypocrisy, Ray.
- Bill Boyd, Merrimack, NH
