Killings in Germany: Gun control didn't help
A gunman dressed in black shot to death more than a dozen people at his former school in Germany -- seven years ago. Yesterday, the horror was repeated.
Twice since the 2002 massacre, Germany tightened its already strict gun control laws. In 2007, the European Union banned minors from owning guns except for hunting and practice under direct adult supervision, and it restricted adult gun ownership to those deemed by government to be no threat to public safety.
None of it worked.
Wednesday's mass shooting was the third by a German teen since the 2002 Erfurt shooting. How many will it take before authorities see that tougher gun control laws are not the answer?

Obamamamma's creepy little Chief of Staff says "never let a crisis go to waste".
Expect the worst of backdoor and frontdoor gun ban proposals soon, with his lapdog "news" and entertainment media towing the line.

you know if the stupid people in the USA would stop taking these illeagle drugs there woulden"t be this problem. but silly ole me I guess i'm not sofisticated enough to want to see clearly. why people want to screw up their minds & bodys. All I can say is this is what the rest of the bad guys would like us to do then they could control us sheep. like Charlton Heston used to say "only from my dead cold hands will they get my "guns"

Mexico blaming the U.S. for its violence problem is like a 300 lb man blaming his neighbors' eating habits for his obesity.

Willy of Deerfield, Smuggling of most anything illegal has been going on since there were countries with borders.
Heck, look at the prominent political families of the US that made a fortune smuggling booze into the US during Prohibition.
There are two key points that need to be made.
One, an increasing number of full auto weapons are turning up in Mexico and are coming in from Africa and China. These are avail for a small fraction of the $1000 required to buy an AR15 these days in the US.....since firearms are already illegal in Mexico, which one will they buy? The $200 full auto AK or the $1000 AR 15?
Two. the reason that there is so much trafficking of people and goods across our porous border is because the current administration and the previous one refused and continues to refuse to shore up security.
Close down the border and the problem is solved.
The problem is not firearms and US Citizens exercising their Constitutionally Guaranteed Right to Keep and Bear Arms but rather our Politicians failure to do their jobs and protect our borders like any sovereign country should.

There are no rain forests in Iceland therefore it doesn't matter if rain forests are all cut down. There are no ice sheets in Morocco so why should we try to prevent global warming. I really don't know where you people stick your heads but don't expect me to kiss those lips. With dedicated no nothing think tanks like Hoover, AEI, and Josiah Bartlett, we increasingly can get a few wing nuts to prove anything. Just ask George Will. Look at the TV. Where do you think all the Mexicans are getting their guns? Won't that be fun in Manchester? Hi Ho shoot em up on Elm Street. I am sure you gunsels will be on the winning side - I saw it in the movies.

A great many people would benefit from reading the recent Kates-Mauser study on gun control from a global perspective.
The study clearly points out that increasingly restrictive gun control does not have the effect of decreasing violent crime

True, gun laws did not help, so lets issue guns to all teenagers.

Matt, well at least you are intellectually consistant. That's rare these days.
Do you have any empirical data that shows this is harming the cause, or is it just a gut feeling of yours?
No matter. If, as you say, this does harm the 'cause', we can take solice in the fact that the gun grabbers must be viewed less favorably than we. Afterall, the Sarah Brady Bunch used the attempted assasination of our President to further their cause.
IMO, sometimes fire has to be fought with fire.

Yes Mike I was disgusted by the Left using Oklahoma City to push their agenda. But I do not believe that using a tragedy, and yes I will continue to call this a tragedy, helps us gun owners.
- Matt, Newton
The people who advocate laws to dilute our second amendment rights, never want to address the fact that the laws they want ( gun control ) will be broken by criminals. That is what criminals do.
- Vic Chiasson, Derry
For all of you loyal Constitution supporting 2nd Amendment believers, it will only take a few more of these tragedies before our liberal Congress and President try to use it as an excuse to disarm law abiding US citizens. Then, only criminals will be armed.
This can all be prevented if each one of you do what I did, join the NRA. It is the only organization in the US (No offense to the Gun Owners of NH, or other affiliates) that has the experience and the clout to prevent this kind of legislation. The dues are cheap and the benefits significant in the form of freedom and a voice to represent you.
Join now, and be a part of the effort to save the 2nd Amendment.
I know...all of the left wing liberal kooks will have a hay day with my post! Bring it on!
- Melvin, Keene
Matt, were you as disgusted by the lefts use of the Oklahoma City bombing to launch their attack on right-wing talk radio? The Clintons and their fellow travellers tried to make Rush Limbaugh, Timothy McVeighs(sp?) accomplice. And that "tragedy" was commited against Americans.
I place tragedy in quotation marks because I believe we should call incidents such as these by their proper names: OUTRAGES. Referring to these dispicable acts as tragedies, IMO, relegates them to the status of naturally occuring events.
Matt, as a "gun owner", you should support the UL's agenda of defending the second amendment. Even if that defense includes using incidents like this as an example. Afterall, the gun grabbers have shown that they are willing to go to any lengths to further their agenda.
- Mike P., Manchester
I am a gun owner however it disgusts me that the UL would write and editorial and use this tragedy to push their agenda. The editors should be ashamed.
- Matt, Newton
It would be hard to imagine a guy with a knife killing 15 people, wouldn't it?
A gun makes it so much easier and less... personal
- Art, Portsmouth
Bobby that's yet one more name to add to your list Robert, Bob, William in Deerfield. LOL
1) If radical islamists can get people to blow themselves up, I would imagine the radicals here could get people to go one shooting rampages for the cause of disarming the population.
2) What will you do when someone kills ten people with a truck ban trucks? How many people could be killed with a carving knife in a mall food court or on a bus? Do we then ban the knives we use to carve our SUnday roasts?
As it has already been said it is the person more than the tool they choose. I'd be willing to bet if we had more armed citizens with the state backing to defend themselves and their neighbors less people would be killed by such loonies when they arrise, and they will always be around us as is proven by the sheer lunacy of liberal thinking that punishing the good will somehow protect them.
- Ross, Derry
Bobby said, "horror perpetrated by hand guns."
The "wing nut" is the deluded blame shifter who concentrates on the tool rather than the hand holding it.
Spoons don't make people fat.
- Bob, Wilton
"Bobby," where are the statistics? They are in John R. Lott Jr.'s book, "More Guns, Less Crime." Widespread ownership of weapons directly correlates to lower crime rates. Charles Murray notes that England, with its jihad against gun ownership, is seeing a shocking rise in burglaries WHERE THE OWNER IS PRESENT. (If the owner is armed, the Crown prosecutes him for trying to defend his home.) Concealed carry is indeed the best solution--because the goal is not for everyone to carry so much as it is for the criminal to be uncertain. (Armed, law-abiding citizens didn't shoot up the legislative gallery. It takes amnesty for invaders and a big welfare state to convince people that their actions don't have consequences.)
(Ah, but you will use further name-calling on these scientists; you will say they are part of the Cheney-Pinochet conspiracy to disagree with you. That's because you will never be able to refute a single one of their claims.)
- Spike, Brentwood NH
Hey Bobby - no permit required for a concealed handgun in Vermont. By your logic, there should be blood in the streets of Burlington and Montpelier as a result. But no, Vermont is one of the safest places to be in the entire nation.
Try again.
- Mark, Amherst
One thing that the UL fails to point out is that this type of event is an extremely rare occurrence in every other country, while it barely elicits national headlines here.
On the same day as the German massacre, a gunman in Alabama killed 10 people. Most Americans unfortunately responded with a shrug.
- Jason, Londonderry
It is good to consider what this means - carefully. Take the Faux Noise ear buds out of your ears and let the echoes die down first. Isn't that better? Now, did gun control help or hurt? Where are the statistics to show that there wouldn't be many more killings in Germany or anywhere else if there were no gun controls? Wing nuts would like you to think that this and any horror perpetrated by hand guns supports their position. I have heard someone locally assert that there should be no permit required for a concealed hand gun. I looked around the room and expected everyone to start laughing but not up here. Give the police at least a little break of knowing who has what. You should have seen all the armed Free Staters screaming from the balcony of the State House while the fourth graders watched.
