I'm was glad to see that Mr. Metcalf was arrested and forced to resign from his positon as Deputy Chief of Liquor Enforcement for the State of New Hampshire. His actions were the height of hypocrisy. Not only was he driving drunk, but he was driving while drinking, which reeks of hubris. It's high time that members of law enforcement are required to abide by the same rules that we citizens must abide by.
- Philip J. Babcock, Shwaytown

Ever hear of innocent until proven guilty? Why are we as a society so quick to judge people? Are we all that perfect? Have any of you ever driven while under the influence? Going out to an innocent dinner with your family and having a few drinks and driving home, is that not driving under the influence?
As for Robert Philbrick's rantings, the law is the law, written for the benefit of society no matter how "Moronic "you interpret this. You enjoy your freedom and sleep well at night knowing that people like Kyle Metcalfe worked hard to keep NH a safe place to live.
- Lynda Robinson, Merrimack

I got two things to say. First to Deborah Foley of Nashua, you mention "should not take away" Metcalf's service to our community. But I suppose you think it's okay for him to commit a crime that can "take away an innocent person's life". Second to Michele of Boxford, who says "the state has lost an excellent employee". What about the families that lost a loved one because of drunk drivers? I guess you both havent suffered the loss of a loved one due to DWI and I pray you never do.
- Valerie Redman, Bristol

Kyle is one of the nicest people I have ever met. In dealing with him for business, he was always very professional and passionate about his job. The state has lost an excellent employee

He and his family are in my thoughts and prayers
- Michele, Boxford MA

"Liquor enforcement officers -- like all police officers -- are required to respect all laws at all times."

The quote above is a bunch of bunk. How many times do you suppose a police officer has looked the other way for a fellow cop because he/she had his/her get out of jail free badge? You are naive if you think it doesn't happen all the time. That's what the fraternal order is all about. CYA.
- Tom, Nashua

At least he stepped up to the plate and resgined. He realized that he screwed up bad and is taking responsibility for it. I think many of our local governement figures would do well to follow his lead.

"He who has not sinned......"
blah,blah,blah....
these are the "AGENTS" of responsible behavior...punishing establishments, their personnel and the public for alcohol-related abuses. Reap what ye shall sow.
Read my article in the Monday Union.
re: Mr. Metcalf 's pontifications re: "illegal gambling"...How poetic it is.
- Bob Philbrick, Milford

Sorry Deborah, he has to be held to a higher standard when it comes to alcohol because enforcing people to abide by alcohol laws IS HIS JOB. If he doesn't abide by the law, how can he enforce it? Would you feel the same had the accident been more serious and someone you knew had been injured?
- S. Butler, Bedford

HE WHO HAS NOT SINNED CAST THE FIRST STONE. a personal mistake should not take away this officers or any other officers service to our communties.NO PERSON IS PERFECT.
- deborah foley, nashua nh 03064

I am very glad this person was arrested and not let go due to his position. What a knucklehead!
