New Hampshire faces a severe budget problem. And yet Gov. John Lynch and the Executive Council thought it fitting for the state to guarantee a line of credit to two private businesses.
Sen. Jeanne Shaheen is not just a proponent of "abortion rights." Oh, no. She wants you to pay for abortions, too.

How short the memories of the masses are! Are people so quick to forget McCain's slavish devotion to handing our country to Mexico with his groveling support of amnesty for illegals? The man makes a mockery of all those immigrants who played by the rules and of hard, honest work as well by offering a prize to criminals, and you want to call him a "candidate"? I call him a pariah fit for old-fashioned tarring and feathering!

Sorry Dan. Paul is not a liberal. But let's compare....
McCain is a worse than a liberal as he has teamed up with the evil and treasonous George Soros.
He has a terrible record on immigration, taxes and personal freedoms.
He is a member of the treasonous CFR.
Dr Paul would never have done those things to us and did win this debate with 33% because 70% of all Americans want OUT of Iraq and want their liberties back. They are sick of paying for the US to waste their tax dollars.
If you think Paul is a liberal you have not looked at his stellar and impeccable 20 year voting record of never raising taxes, never voting against our civil liberties, never approving of wars without a declaration.
Did not NH learn its lesson in 2006?
- Jane, Bedford
There are a zillion reasons to vote for John McCain, but one stands above all others: namely, I could never look a soldier returning from the Gulf Region (or any of their family members) squarely in the eye if I did NOT vote McCain for commander in chief.

I love how whenever I go on any message board where they're talking about politics, there's always one person going "WOOO! RON PAUL!" and babbling about anti-Paul conspiracies. I'm willing to bet that here in NH, Paul will do well (but won't win) and won't get any significant percentages anywhere else.

The Union Leader’s online comments about Wednesday night's debate are right on the money. Clearly John McCain was the winner of the debate and lined up squarely with the traditions of the Republican Party. He was presidential, and singularly, he displayed real leadership traits as he has throughout his distinguished career in service to our nation.
I was surprised by your written newspaper reporter, Russ Choma's article in Thursday's paper. While it is true there were applause for Libertarian Ron what's-his-name, it is even clearer he's not a Republican. His supporters were in the bleacher seats along with four hundred UNH students. Applause was vigorous due to his "withdraw from Iraq" stance, a popular idea among students, Democrats, and Libertarians.
I've made a few hundred phone calls for John McCain’s and spoken with around two-hundred Republicans. They are saying, “Clean up the mismanaged mess and then bring the troops home as quickly as possible.” Not one has said, “Accept defeat, leave a power vacuum, and accept the consequences of regional instability.
When Ron what’s-his-name started talking, real Republicans chuckled, mumbled and whispering to each other especially after he said we need to eliminate most of our security agencies. They booed him more than once regarding the Iraq war.
There’s other thing; about one-hundred of McCain supporters were in a packed room at Libby’s restaurant prior to the debate and not standing out front of the Whittemore making people run the “whack-job” gauntlet. We were there to listen to our candidate and John McCain stayed until the last minute.
Senator McCain introduced a mother who lost her son in Iraq. He introduced the brave soldier’s family too. He introduced an eleven-year-old girl who heard her parents talk about John McCain’s courage, consistency, honesty, and service to our country. The girl heard John needs money to finance his campaign and, through her parents, donated sixty dollars she had earned over a three-week period.
It is incorrect to imply John McCain’s supporters were absent. He received plenty of support before, during, and after the debate. I appreciate this opportunity to give New Hampshire citizens the full picture.

Ron Paul won the debate? Talk about your classic denial. These Ron Paul voters are like rabid dogs. All attack and no common sense.
- Independent Voter, Manchester
McCain? In no way, shape or form!
Can you say McCain-Feingold?
- Ben Hartley, Jaffrey
There is a brilliant disconnect between the positions maintained by this editorial columnist and presumably the paper and the positions maintained by the candidate they are lining up to support. Tax Cuts: disconnect. Free Speech: disconnect. Stem Cell Research: disconnect. Environmental issues: disconnect. Immigration: disconnect. Iraq War and Foreign Policy: Mystery solved.
- Joe Geiger, Merrimack
Once again the new media is trying to control the primary election by misrepresenting the facts as to who the factual winner was but the FOX poll clearly showed the peoples choice Ron Paul. How many times will the people of New Hampshire believe what is written in the Union Leader?
