Here is my guess as to why McCain went from ahead or tied with Obama six weeks ago to trailing him by 7 points now. McCain has never been popular with the true GOP types, since he has voted against them with relish about 1/3 of the time in the past. This "maverick" voting has made him popular with independents. Now, McCain has changed his position on just about everything he ever voted against the GOP on. He was against the Bush tax cuts, he is now for them. He was against torture, he is now for it. He was against drilling offshore and in ANWR, he is now for it. This has made independents leave him in droves. In addition, the true GOP types still don't trust him, because they know deep down he can't be trusted on so many of their core issues.

Good luck in November with that, folks. I prefer Libertarians that stick to their guns. Maybe they can hit us with some Atlas Shrugged tactics.

Ah, yes. The soothing sounds of libertarian crackpots, their judgment addled from reading "The Fountainhead" one time too many.
- Richard, Manchester

Well if thats what you think Richard, then go down to Massachusetts and live the life of your political thought. The founding fathers of this nation wanted less government interference in our lives. Actualy since you mentioned it, the libertarian philosphy is the closest to our founding fathers. I have a suggestion. If you want a different form of government...LEAVE!!!!

PRINCETON, NJ -- The latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update on the presidential election finds John McCain and Barack Obama exactly tied at 45% among registered voters nationwide.

NOT GOOD FOR THE MARXIST.
- Mike, Concord

Shaun, Machester - you made a mistake in you post. Despite what you liberals and your pals in the "free press" like to say, the title of worst president in US history is held safely by Jimmy Carter. I would also suggest you educate yourself on how well socialism has worked for people in other countries, since your comments suggest you are completely oblivious to what socialism does to a free society.

Obama is running on a platform of change, yet he has not told us what that change will consist of, other than the continued growth of the federal govt at our expense. I'm a republican but I have only slightly more faith in John McCain. That's fine. We suffered through 4 years of James Carter to be rewarded with 8 years of Ronald Reagan. I will sit back for 4 years and watch Obama and the democrats continue to shove taxes and social programs down our throats. By 2012, most Americas will be ready to elect a president who will return us to a downsized government and start doing more for the people then for the special interests. Instead of hinging all your hopes on the liberal of the day, maybe you should start asking that liberal some questions. Things that will make him cringe such as "so how will you go about doing this without taxing us more?" He wont like that.
- Mike, Temple

There is nothing I love better than a good afternoon fire-storm of cynicism and ranting....and I'm serious.

I, like many New Hampshire residents, have grown tired of endless campaigning from these people. I agree, Michelle Obama's position as "diversity coordinator" is laughable, and the fact that she earns that much money doing it makes me wonder just what kind of "hope and change" the Obama elite preaches.

Perhaps instead of infultrating a small town with PR and grandstanding for a day, she can head back to Chi-Town and get back to "work" at her day job.
- Nick, Manchester

RE: Shaun, Manchester

Yay! Now I get to listen to partisan ranting from both sides! (sarcasm)

When bullying and appeal to emotion are the norm, no one wins. Is anyone else ready for some reasoned discourse?
- Andrew, Dover

I warms my heart to see that so many New Hampshire people are rejecting Obama's "Hope & Change" Kool-Aid.

Also wanted to mention that my car only ran well on premium gas until I "Regularized" it.
- Bill Howard, Exeter

I just wish we hadn't had to listen to so many democraps and repubicans for the last 2.5 years.

I elected NH congresspeople and senators to do the business of the people. This does not include campaigning ad-nauseum. To have to listen to the same old lies, bravado, and bull---- I heard 30 years ago gets pretty old. And in the meantime, the national debt has risen to 53 TRILLION dollars.

And thats not all because of George Bush.
- John, Goffstown

"Regularized?", too funny. How old are you? 20, 30, 40, 50? I think you meant Nationalize.

Stop drinking the kool aid son.
- DFM, Salem, NH

Shaun,"even if Obama REGULARIZED(???)half of the industries in the country".I would ask you what that means, but I'm sure not even the author knows.Much too funny.
Are you and Jeanne related?

JUST SAY NOBAMA '08
- Mike P., Manchester

Ok, I attempted to rationalize it with some people. Obviously that did not work so you know what? I will say what I really want to say: HAHAHAHA Barack Obama is easily going to be President, he is gonna be the closest thing to socialism that any of you have ever seen and its gonna change the United States. It is great to see how scared you people are, but don't worry you will be fine. Everyone has made it through 8 years of the worst Presidential policies. Even if Obama regularized half of the industries in the country, he would still go down as a better President than Bush and the poor and middle class people that make up the larger portion of our country will go down loving him much like they do Bill Clinton. Obama's lead over McCain grows daily, McCain looks nothing like a Presidential candidate and people are realizing this. So Republicans just hibernate it out for the next 8 years.
- Shaun, Manchester

To John form Candia --

So, you think 300K a year to be a "diversity coordinator" is a real job? Give me a break. This is affirmative action to the enth degree. A classic shakedown.

So, what does she do all day? Besides counting white people and calling people racists?

If it wasn't for affirmative action, nobody would have ever heard of these two numbskulls.
- dave, new boston

Mike: Look at it this way, Barack will create these $300,000 jobs for everyone after he's elected. He's said he will create good jobs for the jobless. I believe its just nonsense, but that's what he said.
- Ditmar, Hollis

Hey Jeanne,as far as I can tell Barry O's stated policies and goals(not counting the unstated, until after the election, ones)mesh with Karl Marxs views more closely than with the views of any of OUR founding fathers.
Would you care to address that,or will your hyper-ventilating hyperbole just have to do?
Oh,in regards to our losing the first in the nation primary.I'm all for it as long as we lose you and your fellow travellers with it.
- Mike P., Manchester

Jeanne - Just plain ignorant huh? The term "communists" refers to all those other posters who have stated that they want Obama to become president so the rich will be taxed more and they will get more goodies. I didn't make those posts up. It's socialism Jeanne.
- Mike, Concord

Stay home. We've heard it, seen it and don't need to do either again. It's the same old political hustle. LIES built upon what is the right thing to say at the right moment. We're still waiting for other promises that have never been kept. We don't need your "Change".
- KD, Merrimack

Well John, the job did not exist until right after Barry became a Senator, and no one can explain why his wife got a $200,000 pay raise in one year. Did she get 12 PHD's in different areas to qualify for some advancement? Did she do/learn ANYTHING WHATSOEVER that would justify the new position and raise?

IT STINKS TO THE HIGH HEAVENS.
- Mike, Concord

And Mike from Concord. You know the her job is fake because...? Did you help create the job? It is bad when people make statemnts that they can't back up with fact. Get a life!
- John, Candia

Yeah communists! We need a watch list, and a black list for black communists too, yeah! Next thing you know, Soviet tanks will be in the streets and we'll owe our shirts to China for cheap goods from WalMart, yeah! Where's Joe McCarthy whne you need him?

What an embarrassment some posters are here on the UL. Just plain ignorant, we really need to get the 1st primary out of this state.
- Jeanne Simmons, Nashua

Maybe all the communists here who want her husband to steal from the rich people can ask Michelle for some of her $300,000 salary, which she gets from the phony job her hospital created right after Barry became a Senator.
