My number has been incorrectly listed in the Fairpoint phone book as belonging to a local Doctor's office. Just one more ID10T error from Fairpoint!
- Darrin, Rochester

I love it how Fairpoint is quick to blame other carriers/companies for their own failures. Oh, that's right, FairPoint is infallible.
- Adam, Pittsfield

Someone keeps delivering phone books that just sit on the ground at my mailbox. They've been buried by leaves finally. The plows will shred 'em up in a month or two and they'll be recycled into compost/mulch around the neighborhood.
- Jay, Manchester

How about 1-800-free 411 and if you cannot find the number there then use 1800GOOG411.
You do not need a computer! Use these numbers they do not cost $1.75. We never use the phone book and when we are on the road I can always find a number.
- DB, Merrimack

I want to know how to prevent delivery of the phone books to my home. A waste of paper. I throw them directly into the trash.
- Rodney, Merrimack

They still make a printed phone book? Do away with that and you could probably fix their finances.
- Jason, Londonderry

Hey I use a phone book. Im not about to turn on the pc just to get a phone number
- Marie, Hooksett

Three months running now my home phone has been disconnected for "non-payment." Three times I've called, spent my lunch hour giving the date that my payment was processed, waited while they figured out where it was misapplied and then had to wait several hours for the service to be reinstated. Then the insult of a phone book that isn't going to be used, delivered into a rain puddle - the result of a wasted tree.
- Bren, Manch,NH

People still use phone books?

For those without internet access there are free 411 services...
- Scott, Bedford

Lets all hope Fairpoint managed to print the correct home telephone numbers for members of the PUC.
- Chris, Bow

who uses a phone book these days??? I can't get anyone at work to use them at all. if they can't find it on-line they dial 411 and we have to pay 1.75 for each call. Seriously... who uses a phone book these days???
- Jim, Manchester, NH

Some people still need phone books as not everyone has access to a computer at home.
- tam, swanzey

I've had quite a few customers tell me that my business number is not listed in the phone book now. I wonder how much that little error cost us.
- Keith Murphy, Manchester

We left the Fairpoint phone book out on the stoop to dry (after they dropped it under the roof's drip line). It's been dry for a week but we use it so seldom we heven't bothered to bring it in. Guess now I know that I shouldn't bother - right around to the trash can.
- Jim, Manchester

Telephone books are archaic at best and a waste of paper at worst! Expensive advertising dollars, $$thousands to deliver and all totally unecessary.

In Austin, we have just received a boxed CD in the mail from our telephone company (AT&T). Much more useful, if ever (?) needed. Perhaps in the next billing cycle, Fairpoint should have a check box for those wishing to opt out and receive a CD instead. Thusly leaving the book only for those without internet or needing the "seat-booster"

The CD's are much cheaper to administrate, correct and deliver. Perhaps redirecting said saved funds to their customer service!
- Annah, Austin, TX/Londonderry, NH.

Let's not just blame Fairpoint, Verizon didn't do well either. When Jaffrey renumbered the addresses, Verizon never updated their data! Even though they had correct data, the phone books continued to show the old addresses--and repeated calls to Verizon did nothing to fix the problem. I finally gave up!

And, yea, I immediately recycled my phone books too--after all the Internet is a much better resource to find information.

I like the idea of only delivering to those who request the books. A smart idea!
- Peter, Jaffrey

How do I get the phone companies to stop sending me phone books? Every year they litter my driveway with that unwanted pulp.
- Glenn, Candia

Is there anything that isn't blamed on Fairpoint???????? Move on people!!!!
- Jen, Manchester NH

In Nottingham, we keep getting new phone books every week for all different sections of the state. They just keep showing up
- DL, Nottingham

I'm not so sure the directory advertising sales management at Fairpoint would be happy with Richard D's union propaganda comment that only 1%-2% of the population ever opens the phone book. Could be bad news for future ad sales with readership being that low.
- Tom B, Derry

Goodbye, Fairpoint; hello, Comcast. Best decision I've made in a while.
- Glen, Manchester, NH

More union propaganda! With the internet at our fingertips, how many people even open a phonebook anymore? 1-2% of the population? Guess the union dues are paying off....."let's make us all look like bumbling idiots!" Do you think Verizon ever made mistakes in their printing????? Let's focus on real news instead of this horrific saga...........
- Richard D, Goffstown

Waste of paper = phone book. When everyone has access to a computer there should be no more phone books allowed.
Speaking of being allowed, FairPoint is another thing that shouldn't be allowed to screw up anymore in NH. Give them the boot.
- Frank Castanza, Bedford NH

FairPoint phone book has one good job. At Thanksgiving we use it to boost little Austin up to the dinning room table so he can join the rest of the family in height.
Please don't give up the paper phone book. Little Austin won't reach the table at Thanksgiving without it.
- Annie Lee, Manchester NH

Do people still use phone books?
- Tom, Manchester

So wait, if I'm a Comcast phone customer and my sister has Fairpoint, she won't find my phone number in a Fairpoint book? I'm not a customer of either company presently, but when I do have a need for the services again, I'll be returning to Comcast. Fairpoint has been screwed from the start.
- Bill, Manchester

Is this strike three and thee out of business??? I hope so. Maybe we can get some company who will at least tell us the truth.
- mo, plymouth

Good ole FairPoint. What else would you expect from this fine outstanding company?
I have never seen such a screw-up company as FairPoint.
Glad I'm a loyal customer of Comcast.
- Doris Pond, Manchester

Other than hoodwinking the PUC, name me one thing FairPoint has done right.

Anybody?
- Jim D, Hillsboro

This is by far the worst company to come to NH in a long time.
- G. Paul, Concord

Yet another example of the fallout of the Telecom Act of 1996....Idearc is another Verizon cast-off that is, or is just emerging from, bankruptcy...1COM is an inept, wannabe CLEC, who oddly enough, have a bunch of their failed executives now infesting Fairpoint (IE Making the decisions that are putting FP in the toilet)...The divestiture of the terrestrial network continues unabated, brought to you by Dhimmicrats (thanks Ed Markey !!!), lawyers, and CPAs....
- Geoff, Derry

Hello? Who uses the "phone book" ? Duh, there is something called "the web". I told the guy with the book to keep on driving. I don't need a book adorned with lawyer ads, and wrong numbers. If I need a lawyer, I just google "snake", and lots of them appear.
- tommy, manchester,nh

Since Haverhill is in MA and MA has Verizon and NH has Fair Point, it would only make sense that Plaistow NH would be in the FairPoint book. So they did get the right directory.

If Rochester's phone company didn't submit it's numbers then it doesn't seem fair to blame FairPoint.

I'm not a FairPoint fan nor am I a customer but to place blame for everything that has to do with a phone on FairPoint is not fair to an already ailing company. Kicking 'em when they're down is one thing but when it's no fault of their own, it's another.

Besides, who uses a phone book in this day and age anyway? The internet is the first place I look.
- Domenic, Manchester

The phone book that recently arrived at my home went directly from the front steps into the garbage. I see I made the right decision.
- DM, Hampton

I have a great idea - since Fairpoint is so bad at running a profitable business, can't come close to satisfying its customers, has incompetent and corrupt management, is a pro-union company, and lastly, has no chance to ever recover due to expected losses in land lines over the next ten years - we can have our Democrat delegation of Reps and Senator appeal to Washington to bail out our albatross of a telco provider. Since the money spigot has been turned on in DC we have yet to see any of this TARP or stimulus money go to dying businesses.

Why not bailout Fairpoint before the rate payers get stuck with another pig-in-a-poke? God knows Shaheen, Shea-Porter and Hodes have done zilch to help NH during this horrible recession.
- jerry, Derry

FairPoint spokesman Jeff Nevins said the company learned about the Rochester situation Monday. "Beyond that we haven't had any widespread calls for problems with the books," he said.

I bet most people are like me and never open the books that get dumped on our doorsteps. The phone companies should stop the automatic delivery and send them to the houses who request them. Tons of paper would be saved.
- Tracy, E Hampstead

doesnt surprise me at all, there were a ton of phone numbers missing from the concord area book as well, businesses as well as residents who I know do not have unlisted numbers.
- Steph, concord
