It's a darn disgrace how NH allowed themselves to be hood winked by Verizon/Fairpoint. Fairpoint's operations and services have been nothing short of crimminal. The NH residents are the ones paying the price for this greedy enterprise. Personally I switch to Comcast triple play which saved me $80 a month over Fairpoint.
Wake up NH politicians and smell the coffee before it is too late.

One of Fairpoint's major issues and what contributes to their delays on installing or fixing issues is the union they have. Majority of their workers are just plain lazy and only want to do couple work orders a day and then go hide somewhere while still making serious money. I have seen many times their refusal of doing a simple wiring job because it is somebody elses job. Their workers need to wake up and get rid of this mentality and their union, otherwise Fairpoint will get rid of them and that is what the filing for chapter 11 will bring.

Below is a reply to Robert J Curran of Laconia:
You and any NH resident can send a complaint letter or even call and complaint verbally. That goes on record. If you do not, your voice will not be heard.

What happens when you cancel FairPoint service and they owe you money? They will not immediately refund you money. You must wait to receive a statement then "request" a refund. When you do they will tell you they refund will take 60 days and you receive no interest. What would happen if you owed Fairpoint for 60 to 90 days? This practice should be stopped immediately. Who do I complain to? FairPoint is using these funds as a loan to float their leaky boat.
- Robert J Curran, Laconia
WHAT ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU CANCEL FAIRPOINT SERVICE and they owe you money back? They tell you to wait till you get statement then request a rebate. They will not rebate you immeditately. When you do file the request they tell you it will be at least 60 days to get your own money back. No interst of course. What would happen if you were 60 to 90 days overdue with your payment. NH regulators should stop this practice immediately. Fairpoint is funding their operation using these interest fee balances. WHO DO WE COMPLAIN TO ABOUT THIS?
- Robert J Curran, Laconia
I wonder how much Comcast paid the PUC to allow Fairpoint in in the first place. They are making a klilling on this debacle.

The real tragedy here is no cell coverage at your home. In third world countries who install phone networks to remote villages it is wireless netorks they install because they are cheaper to operate. That is one of the reasons Verizon is expanding its wireless networks and dumping its twisted pair operations in rural areas. You should find out who or what is standing in the way of cell service in your area. There has been Federal and State money allocated for the roll out of broadband and wireless communication networks in rural areas of NH. If you could pick up a radio station at home there is no reason you shouldn't have cell service.

Hearst argyle owns WMUR. I agree with you they are a first class joke.

Marsha in Nashua nailed it! Thank you for seeing the obvious.

The reason Verizon left the state is that the powers to be would not let them string fiber for it would compete with comcast and its hidden local deals .
and guess what their is no future in cable for the high speed requirments that business need
So what are we going to do now New Hampshire
- george, Manchester
Buy stock in Comcast.
- Lou, Bedford
Verizon was not any worse than Fairpoint as far as "getting service". I think we just took it for granted that getting anything done "phone wise" was going to be a struggle and dealt with it. Not always happily, but we expected it.
When Fairpoint came along with their glowing promises . .we thought things would change and change quickly. That has not been the case. I think that Verizon unloaded a big chunk of problems onto Fairpoint. Do any of you think that possibly Verizon was not totally forthcoming about the condition of lines, and the equipment? I do. They wanted out and for a very good reason . .the cost of doing business in this area coupled with the needed equipment upgrades and repairs. It was looking like a money pit. So they sold their money pit.
If I had cell phone reception in my area . .I wouldn't have a "land line".
There was a time when I said that I had no use for a cellular phone. I have a tracfone that I use and would more if I had reception at my home.
Give Fairpoint time, they have to clean up the mess that Verizon left.
- Ann Dodge, Landaff
No matter who owns this messed up operation they will have the same problems.
I dumped this telephone system over 5 years ago when it was owned by Verizon. This was after they kept telling me that a problem I was having with my telephone was on my side of their system. Two calls to the customer service center and two visits by their people to my home produced the same wrong opinion. I called a third time and stayed home from work for this visit and showed them that their line coming from the utility pole was the problem.
The employees make a company and the ones left behind by Verizon are, in my opinion, definitely not the ones I would want in any company that I held stock in.
This operation is full of disgruntled employees and needs total restaffing.

Right, revoke their license THEN what?
Switch to a CLEC? Oh yeah, the CLEC's need Fairpoint (or someone) to run the cable plant.
- JAC, Manchester
I just made a copy of the UL article. I'm going to hand a copy to the guy sleeping in his Fairpoint truck behind the little building. First, I need to wake him up.

verizon were sorry please come back

Who owns WMUR? "Heroic workers" pieces during the ice storm, hardly a word about PSNH taking days to get the help we needed. WMUR read a few creampuff lines on its 11 show about Comcasts shutdowns yesterday, and nothing on their webpage today. But FP's problems are a big scandal.
- Marsha, Nashua
Regulators in three Northeast states are considering revoking FairPoint's telephone and Internet licenses because of customer complaints of poor service and not filling customers orders.
so what do we do now ?
- George, Manchester
Ooh I am sure those arrogant jerks on the PUC are scared. What is Hatfield going to do THEM. What can be done to them? Here it is.
RSA 363:7 Removal. – The governor and council may at any time remove any commissioner for inefficiency, neglect of duty or malfeasance in office; but no commissioner shall be removed without a hearing after notice in writing of the charges against him.
Commissioners Getz and Below voted for this sale against the recommendations of Hatfield and many others . They are grounds for removal here, but Lynch doesn't have the salt to do anything about the PUC, so the outrage goes on. Remember Lynch appointed and reappointed Below and Getz.
- Chris, Merrimack
This whole thing is a joke! The victims are all Granite State residents.
