The Democratic congresswoman gears up for reelection amid criticism that she’s become an insular member of the political establishment she once confronted as a grass-roots activist. The question cuts to the heart of her political identity.

she voted for this healthcare monstrosity.....fired
- John Kitson, Londonderry, Nh

Whatever happened to fair and objective news reporting? Anyone ever see a negative news report about a Republican in the Union Leader? Carol Shea-Porter won two elections against Jeb Bradley for a reason. The voters in the first district believe in her. I believe in her. I have an uncle who is a disabled veteran. He is getting execellent health care from the Veteran's Administration. Keep up the good work Congresswomen. You have my vote in the next election.
- Kim Roux, Manchester, NH

We remember just a few days ago the story about, “The Balloon Boy!” The story goes that a boy was stuck in a hot air balloon over the Denver Skies in a flimsy compartment. It was drifting 10’s of thousands of feet with no steering for this little boy. In the end the hot air (helium) leaked out and the boy was not in the balloon.
Carol Shea-Porter did go to some town hall meetings. She did respect the office of Congressman and only asks questions in a civil manor. The flimsy air in this article is leaking out and the charges of her demeanor did not exist and can’t be found.
Rep. Carol Shea-Porter is daily working for common men, woman and children. She is working for veterans and their families; she is working hard on health care for those who are seeking health care for their families, looking for ways to help us with home heating needs. Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter is continually staying the course of being, “The Voice for the Rest of Us!”
- Jack Cochrane, Barrington, NH

Carol Shea-Porter is anything but a rabble rouser. A silent protest, without weapons, is not the same as those who shout down speakers, bring unrest and weapons to town hall meetings and generally make a mockery of a public forum. What Carol did when attending the Bush event and Bradley events was proper and with decorum. What we saw in NH and on television of this summer's town hall meetings was anything but proper.

As to her "going Washington", Mr. Bradley is not one to talk. He did not represent NH's best interests when in Washington, and that's why the people of the first district voted him out and kept him out.

- Dorothy Solomon, Albany

I've been very pleased with Carol Shea-Porter in these years. I've personally written to her on multiple issues that I care about, and each correspondence has been met with a heartfelt reply on how the issue affects us in NH and her stance on the matter. Time and time again Carol has shown me that her foremost allegiance is to her constituents, and while I can't speak for everybody, I know that her voting record is reflective of my own views.

The first vote I ever cast was for Carol Shea-Porter in 2006. I spent the next two years making sure she was working in our interests. In 2008 I was pleased to offer her my support as well as my time, and saw to her re-election. Now, with us nearing the half-way point of her second term, I still feel that the Carol we sent to Washington has been steadfast in principle. She's brought New Hampshire's virtues to Washington, not the other way around.
- Thomas Nelson, Hampstead, NH

Carol Shea-Porter has proven to be unresponsive to the people that she represents. Her failure to face the people in face to face town hall meetings, hiding behind telephone town halls and spending our dollars on pricy direct mail pieces.
- Eric Bennnett, Manchester, New Hampshire

I'm one of the everyday, working-class people who helped support Carol Shea-Porter's campaigns because she by-passed corporate dollars to be able to work for people like me and my neighbors. She's been true to her word -- working to get NH vets access to health services previously not provided here by the VA, saving jobs in the Portsmouth shipyard, increasing a pathetically low minimum wage, increasing fuel assistance when oil costs were sky-high, and voting to cut taxes for us middle-class folk. Now she's working to make healthcare available to the 67,000 in NH who have to go without (many of whom work). Carol has kept her word, and I'll be happy to work to keep her in office!
- Sandra Gagnon, Manchester

Rep Shea Porter is a beacon of hope for the middle class in Washington. Rep Shea Porter is one of the very few politicians who keep fighting for the middle class and ignore the allure of big money. Rep Shea Porter votes for the middle class consistently, we are very fortunate to have her representing us!
- Bill Brickley, Manchester

Carol Shea-Porter has the loyalty of a majority of New Hampshire voters because she is a strong advocate for our priorities. It is Carol Shea-Porter who stood up for NH’s veterans and ensured that health care become more available to them. She has sponsored a bill which will provide tax relief for middle income families, and will provide a tax credit for the high cost of home heating oil. She is working for changes in health care policy that will ensure millions of Americans are able to be treated for serious illness without the threat of bankrupting the family.

These are solid contributions to the people of our state. They outline the beliefs of a strong candidate whose commitment to our NH families is both effective and consistent. She is smart, informed and dedicated to the work of making our lives better. She is a well-respected member of our US Congress, and it has been a breath of fresh air to have her on our side.

Carol is the voice for the rest of us; her stand on not taking funds from political action committees made her a long-shot from the beginning. It was the contributions of thousands of folks like us that made the difference, and we will do it again. Her election jolted awake a political contingent that had basked far too long in the warm glow of Washington power without challenge. So stop whining and check the record. We want Carol back in Washington.

No matter how much spin you throw on that ball, the complaints are coming uniformly from those who lost the last two election cycles, and are willing to resort to mud-slinging as a favored tactic.

My dad, a down-to-the-bone Yankee if there ever was one, told me the old saw about those in power: “If they have the facts on their side, they pound the facts. If they have the numbers on their side, they pound the numbers. If they don’t have either the facts or the numbers, they pound the table!”

This table-pounding by the ultimate insiders is a part of the tired old games they have played for years. We know that Carol Shea-Porter is the real deal, and we will be working to support her and ensure her return so that she can continue to speak for our NH veterans, and our NH families.
- Lisa I Whittemore, Londonderry

Welcome to Campaign, 2010. The Republican Party
has targeted Congresswoman Carol Shea Porter because they see someone who does not accept pack money of money from political Lobbyist as possibly vulnerable. (Start counting the out of state dollars flowing in to Major Guinta's Campaign) Most of the people orchestrating these false attacks have never been to New Hampshire, and they will continue to underestimate an electorate who knows the truth when they hear it, and respects hard work. In Carol, they have found both of these.
- Kathy, Manchester, NH

Ibelieved in Carol Shea Porter when I voted for her and I believe in her now. She continues to stand up for the middle class. She is a member of the Middle Class Caucus, The Populist Caucus working to create jobs and helping people weather these tough times. Last week she met with Nancy Pelosi and urged her to reject imposing a tax on "high cost insurance plans" since this tax would adversely affect middle class families. Check her website to see all she is doing: shea-porter.house.gov.
- Marilyn Brock, Bedford

Wow, an article from a right-wing website quoting Republicans who lost saying negative things about a Democrat who won and this is somehow news? (Correct answer: No.)

I supported Carol, I support her and I will continue to support her because she is a great representative for the people of this state. She didn't beat Jeb Bradley by teabagging him--she beat him because she is smarter, a much better debater, and has actual empathy for the people she represents.
- Mary Heslin, Manchester

Just listen to you idiots talk about the tyranny of the government! Where were you when the Republicans and the Bush administration decided that it was OK to listen in on your phone calls, monitor your email, open your mail and arrest you for no probable cause?

Oh yeah, that's right; Bush said it was OK.

Funny how NOW you think you live in tyranny since we have a new president. Hypocrites!
- Frank, Manchester

Carol Shea-Porter is a leftist who does not believe in individual freedom and liberty. A vote for her or people like her is a vote for a slow slide to a soft tyranny.
- Eric Shirley, Belmont

Hey Jim in Stratham,

I support Carol 100%. She is right on in her beliefs, her votes and voting for NH citizens.

Remember, she is one of 435 and can't change other people's positions by herself. YOu can't blame her for not repealing NCLB. If you actually educated yourself on that issue, you would know that the chairman of the Education Committee is putting together a re-write of that law. It takes time to put together a 1500 page document -- one that isn't put together hap-hazardly. I find it hard to believe that given your hostility and anger that you actually supported her in the past. IF you did support her, chances are that you saw her in person at some point and realize that she (or her staff) looks at every bill and studies the research behind it.

Also, shame on the UL for printing such garbage. THis isn't news. If you actually sent a reporter to her office to speak to her and find out for yourself -- instead of relying on some political hack from who-knows-where (Kansas, perhaps?) to write about someone he doesn't even know.
- Matt, Rochester

The only thing she's done considerably well at is to make sure she gets her paycheck and use her benefits.
- Jack Alex, Manchester

I find this sort of distorted "journalism" troubling. Once upon a time, newspaper articles reported the facts and left opinions for the opinion page. Ancient history for the UL.

Following a complete media blackout from conservative newspapers throughout NH prior to her 2006 victory, Shea-Porter has had to withstand one attack after another. The intent has been clear all along. Throw out as many lies as possible and see what sticks.

I find it interesting that the UL rarely reports on Shea-Porter's accomplishments in Congress. Why bother with the facts, when it is much easier and more entertaining to just make it up?
Readers should visit her Congressional website to learn the truth of her accomplishments in Congress: http://www.shea-porter.house.gov/

Whatever you do, don't rely on the UL to provide you with unbiased reporting of her accomplishments. That would simply be foolish.
- Beth, Durham

What has Carol actually done other than ote 98% with Nancy? She abstains a bit. Her people take turns writing to local papers touting what she brings to NH. Wasn't most of what she brought home just her megre share of the bacon porked on to unrelated legislation? How many of our tax dollars did she have to give away to get her pork? Was any of it actually her legislation? She's not a part of the solutions - she's a lock stepping part of the problem.
- Paul, Dover

Hey Dick from Concord:
George Bush was a moderate! Look at his increase in the size and scope of the federal government. Medicare D, No Child Left Behind, etc.
- Jim, Stratham

Regrets to Dick from Concord. Carol Shea-Porter has done none of the things she said she would do.

She said she would balance the budget, but she hasn't done that.
She said she would stop funding for the war in Iraq, but she hasn't done that.
She said she would end the war in Iraq, but she hasn't done that.
She said she would repeal no child left behind, but she hasn't done that.
She said she would eliminate earmarks, but then took millions in earmarks of her own.
She said she wouldn't accept campaign contributions from PACs or corporations, but she went back on that thousands of times over.
She said she would answer citizen questions openly and honestly, and yet her first official act in Congress, her vote in the leadership elections remains a secret.

As a former volunteer and former supporter of CSP, none of the things Carol said she would do have come to pass. Check the old video tapes my friend. She hasn't done anything she said she would do.
- John Morganti, Rochester, NH

The Congresswoman's national defense refrain: "Send in the social workers!"
- Jim, Stratham

Carol Shea-Porter has gone to Washington and done exactly what we asked her to do: oppose Bush's illegal war, take care of the veterans of that and the war in Afghanistan, work to provide better medical coverage for all of us, as well as all the other things others have mentioned here. She didn't hold town meetings because the right wing has assured that these degenerate into nothing more than screaming matches that embarrass people on YouTube. Carol did nothing more than turn her back on Mr. Bush at that meeting, never screamed at anyone, never told the huge lies about health care that the right wingers are spouting, so there is no disconnect in her desire to avoid these screaming matches. And, oh, Jeb Bradley having the unmitigated gall to allege that Carol has been changed by Washington???? Please!!! He went from a supposed moderate Republican to the ultimate lock-stepper with the Bushies, and that's why he lost his seat: he sold his soul!
- Dick, Concord

This is one election I don't much worry about.....Shea-Porter is going to lose this election by big numbers. She rode in on the anti-Bush wave, and now she's going to ride out on an anti-Obama wave. That's politics.
- Jay Collins, Laconia

It's nice to see the re-emergence of GOP hatchet men just in time for Halloween. Former Republican congressman Jeb Bradley re-appears periodically from his political graveyard (the state senate) to seek political vengeance. After losing twice to Shea-Porter for Congress, Bradley attempts to stick a knife in her back every chance he gets.

Former GOP state chairman Wayne Semprini looks like a mummy. He is still bandaged and nursing his wounds after his public charges that Shea-Porter disrupted a Bradley town hall in 2005 were thoroughly (and I mean thoroughly) discredited by eyewitnesses, videotapes, and newspaper photos.

Back to your crypts, gentlemen. The sun's coming up.
- Gary Patton, Hampton

Congresswomen Shea-Porter is just another bourgeois socialist and has always been. She has never had much regard for us little people. Our purpose was to put her in Washington so she could associate more closely with the ruling class she feels she belongs to. She showed her feelings toward us last August when she refused to condescend to the electorate and explain her positions.
- Mike, Dunbarton

No, I don't think Washington changed Carol Shea-Porter. I think she's always been this way. The fact that she was a progressive protester herself and now belittles conservative protesters should not appear like a contradiction to you. It follows with the entire mindset of progressives. They want to destroy this country and make it into their socialist utopia. Anyone who stands in the way of those goals is worth less than dirt to them. Her treatment toward conservative protesters clearly indicates she wishes they didn't exist, and she is doing everything she can to make believe this is the truth. We don't need representatives like that in Washington. Not now, not ever.

The only reason Shea-Porter was elected was because people were upset at Republicans for supporting the progressive president, George W. Bush. The only way Bush was allegedly conservative is because he supported the military, but everyone should know true conservatives believe military force should be used sparingly and only when absolutely necessary. Otherwise, the guy supported one big government program after another. He was a progressive, through and through. What voters didn't realize was that they were voting for someone in Carol Shea-Porter who is even more progressive than Bush. They have been confused by the left-right, Democrat-Republican divide, and unfortunately, Republican Party leaders haven't done a very good job keeping the party pure, and true to its principles. I hope that is about to change.

I will always encourage people to vote for the person and his or her principles, and ignore everything else. In my case, I make sure the person is a strong conservative who supports the constitution and will work to decrease the size of the federal government and restore it to its constitutional limits. Frank Guinta is a guy who meets this criteria. He is a man who voters must support!
- Andrew J. Manuse, Derry, NH

This is for John in Dover...
Here's some of the legislation CSP has INTRODUCED(not just voted for):
# Veterans Health Equity Act
Ensures New Hampshire veterans have access to full in state health care.
# The Home Energy Assistance through Emergency Relief Act
Would increase funding for heating assistance
# National Guard and Reserve Readiness Act
# The Middle Class Assistance Act
Lowers taxes for middle class families
# Presidential Signing Statements Act
Prohibits the courts from using a presidential signing statement interpret the law
# The Medical Bankruptcy Fairness Act
Helps people protect their homes if medical bills force them into debt
# Social Security Number Protection Act
Protects the privacy of American citizens by making it illegal to sell Social Security account numbers
# Combat Veterans Debt Elimination Act
Prohibits the government from collecting debts held against soldiers killed in action
# Amendment to the Biomass Research and Development Act of 2000
Broadens the definition of bio-based fuels to include home heating oil produced by biomass

This is all a matter of public record - it's just that no one does the research - or wants to do the research. This is what CSP supporters - who are also your neighbors, btw, mean when she's doing a good job.
- Kate, Manchester

I'm proud to say I voted for Carol Shea-Porter twice. She's the first N.H. representative who has the courage to turn her back to the big money lobbyists in Washington and stand up for working people.

At the last primary I watched with interest while Jeb Bradley stood next to state representative Al Baldasaro in front of the gymnasium...this while Al was wearing his "Osama-Obama, You Decide" button. Way to go Jeb. I wonder why you lost the election?

Keep up the good work Carol and I'll continue supporting you.
- Jerry Conner, Londonderry

How are you working for the people of NH when everything you support can only lead to higher taxes?

Wouldn't you actually be working for the people if you were doing everything you can to limit the scope of government in people's lives and to reduce the tax burden they, their children and now their children's children have to pay?

CSP is a political hack who's mission was to get into Washington so she could get ahold of as many goodies as she can and the bennies the politicians have voted for themselves.

I think we need a new tax structure: The Party Affiliated Tax. If the party you voted for raises taxes, then you should automatically have to pay an additional 25% while those who voted against that party, will get a 25% reduction.
- Jim D, Hillsboro

It happens to most of them, beltway fever. If they fight it, they'll be out of office one way or another. Good examples of what happens if they don't want to get the beltway fever are Rep. "Pete" McCloskey. Rep. Paul Findly and Rep. Jim Traficant Jr.. Or I should say "former representatives.
- Steve, Raymond

Carol and Jeanne Shaheen are spineless puppets for Nancy Pelosi's Washington and are actually creating harm for the people of New Hampshire that will take years to change!
- Chris, Concord

Once again, the UL doesn't let facts get in the way of an opinion (since this article really isn't news...). CSP does work for us and especially the middle class. She has fought hard battles for veterans, jobs and health care. I attended a town hall meeting with CSP this summer, in Deerfield, before Obama came to NH and well before "boy wonder" Guinta decided he better get on the stick and wake up about the issue. CSP demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues and spent hours afterword answering individual concerns. Just because the UL did not cover the event, they would like to propose it didn't happen. Please TRY and report facts!
- JPKANT, Northwood

Rep. Shea-Porter lost the support of this registered independent voter since she has done nothing to address a concern that I was told – in writing – would be raised during her time in office. Of course, that does not mean I presently plan to vote for Manchester's current mayor or any other Republican candidate either. Until a critical mass of the independent electorate realizes both major parties have a stranglehold on the entire process, our country remains on its seesaw ride to mediocrity – or worse.
- Jerry Liptak, Deerfield

Yep Jessica Osbourne...Support her and her "support" of the tax credit...then I can thank you personally for paying taxes and giving the tax credit to me! We were buying a house with or without it, but since you like to spend your money on me and others of the like, go for it! HOORAH!
- Lori, Manchester

Pelosi's Puppet. Period.
- Mike R., Bedford

Ahh...the Republican echo chamber is at it again. If you think you can paint Carol Shea-Porter as a hypocrite and a Washington insider, go for it.

What voters see is something else entirely. Start with her commitment to the troops and vets, not an obvious source of campaign contributions. She was way out front on ending the Iraq war and then was in the lead again, months ago, on questioning the administration's Afghanistan and Pakistan strategy.

She champions the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and has brought in big investments to make it viable in the long term.

She improved medical care for vets here in New Hampshire: The VA now contracts with the Concord Hospital to provide any medical services they can’t provide in Manchester. This is big stuff. It took years of pushing committee chairmen and VA leadership.

She also pushed congressional leadership to increase winter fuel assistance for poor people and to fund the children’s health program that benefits so many kids in New Hampshire. Now she’s right in the middle of the health care reform battle, fighting for the public option.

She's been pressing the Defense Department to crack down on contractors ripping off the tax payers in Iraq and Afghanistan. Her legislation requires penalties for shoddy work and she's pushing Secretary Gates for an investigation in the death of a contractor electrocuted, apparently because of poor workmanship.

She has been a leader in education funding, recently helping pass increased funding for Pell grants and the reform of student loans so that the money goes to students rather than subsidizing the banks.

These and hundreds of other day-to-day accomplishments are not the politics of the Union Leader but they are just what she said she'd do and what the voters elected her to do.

You may not like the clear straight answers she gives, but they are not hypocritical. She believes the government has a responsibility to its citizens, in defense, education, health care and environmental issues and has volunteered for extra work on those congressional committees.

If that's what you mean by "she's gone native," gimme more of that!
- Bill, New Castle

I keeping waiting for that magic moment when she morph's into Nancy Pelosi....
- Dale A., Manchester

Jessica Osborne, Manchester ... I don't want to ruin your socialist breakfast but ::: The U.S. Internal Revenue Service is probing more than 100,000 doubtful claims of a tax credit meant for first-time home buyers, the Wall Street Journal reported on its Web site on Tuesday. ::: Gee, thanks Carol.
- tom, manchester,nh

Which came first- the article or the accusations of her selling out? Alex Isenstadt doesn't sound like much of political reporter with this, this reeks of bias. Whether you agree with her or not, I haven't heard legitimate concerns over her changing, but if you purposefully want to write an article about that than I'm sure you can hunt someone down to comment... it's just that that isn't reporting.
- J Paige, Manchester

I'm seeing a pattern: The few people who support Shea-Porter all have the same line.

"She has done a good job, and is working for the people of NH."

Care to add anything else to that motto, or is that it???
- John, Dover

Yes she has changed. She is worse than ever. Just another party and unoin hack.
- Bob H, Londonderry

Congresswoman Shea-Porter is a real Mrs. Smith goes to Washington story. Unlike most politicians in Washington the only interests she is beholden to is her constituents.
- Howard Jefferson, Manchester

Once again Jeb Bradley embarrasses himself.

Jeb, the electorate has spoken to you in the last two elections. I don't care if you go away mad; just go away.
- Bob V, Manchester

In their hysterical desire to defeat Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter, Republicans are blaming her for anything and everything. The GOP's problem is that when their claims are closely examined, they are false.
- Darlene Browne, Amherst

Manchester loves CSP! We finally have a rep who is from the grassroots and is fighting for us!

All these politicians running for President, Mayor, or Senate always come in, shake some hands, and leave.

Not Carol--she sticks up for us! We're lucky to have her!
- Jack Beaulieu, Manchester

This story is non-sense. Just this week the Congresswoman fought to extend the tax credit for first-time home buyers. In this difficult economy we need more representatives like the Congresswoman looking out for the people of New Hampshire.
- Jessica Osborne, Manchester

Let's face it folks ,none of these politicians are representing anyone but their own parties goals and ambitions. Term limits for all and in 2010 throw them all out !
- dave, Littleton

We should all be proud of the work Congresswoman Shea-Porter has done in Washington. For the first time in a long time we have a Representative in Washington that is looking out for the people.

For example, the Congresswoman has been working to make sure that dependable, quality health care is truly affordable for New Hampshire families and small businesses.
- Joe McFarley, Merrimack

Congresswoman Shea-Porter is doing a great job in Washington working for the the New Hampshire.

Alex clearly doesn't know what he has no idea what he's talking about and the grassroots support for Carol has never been stronger.
- mk, Bedford

Ms. Shea-Porter doesn't represent NH District 1, she is nothing more than a floor mat for the adminstration , doing what she is told and voting the way they tell her. By her own admissions she has not read all the bills she has voted on, was shamed into holding town halls which by the way mainly attended bu non District 1 people and now has selective memory loss about her actions when she was a member of Turn your Back on Bush? Bye Bye Carol I hear Peolosi needs some house help, in CA.
- Paul, Candia

Anyone representative is too busy to hold a town hall meeting and listen to her constituents needs some time off work. Vote her out. She's just a rubber stamp now and what the people think is obviously meaningless to her.
- CDR, Lebanon

“There’s a very, very big difference between standing there politely and quietly with a shirt on and going around and being disruptive and yelling,” Shea-Porter said.

LOL There is also a difference between a million so called right wingers protesting without incidents of any kind and a left wing protests the end up with store windows being smashed, cars turned over and set on fire, and most often violence.

Yes Miss Porter leftist rallies are never disruptive or cost the tax payer money cleaning up the destruction left behind. Next why don’t you claim conservatives can exercise freedom of speech on collage campuses in organized events without constant shouting from leftist activists making the events impossible to attend. The word hypocrite comes to mind when you get what you sow and call foul.
- Deb, Derry

A perfect example of:

“The strong man with the dagger is followed by the weak man with the sponge.”

Sponge, mop, whatever.
- R, Raymond

Carol's hypocrisy is displayed whenever there is a tough vote that differs NH from country-wide Democrats. She most recently voted for funding the GE alternate engine plant in Manchester after proclaiming her military opposition and her disagreement with the Pentgon and the military/industrial complex.

Funny the things you vote for when your running for re-election. BTW, Shaheen opposed this GE alternate engine funding. Maybe if Shaheen was running in 2010 she'd have to vote for the dreaded pork barrel-in-state military spending too. The Democrats rhetoric is much harsher when they're not fighting for their incumbancy.
- Jerry, Derry

Che-Porter used to an "indpendent" thinker. Now she just votes party line 95%+ most of the time now. Any tax is a good tax in her mind...
- Andy, Milford

I am a life long, blue dog, democrat .. I won't vote for Ms Porter. If for no other reason, her so called town hall meeting. She hides inside a federal building, in a room with a seating capacity of 100. She is lucky it isn't 1775, the good general Sullivan of Durham would have taken his Irish boot and sent her to the torys. Porter is the most annoying, ineffectual, congress-thing NH has sent to Washington in my lifetime. I'd like to see an independent minded, solid thinking, NH'ite take her office. Hopefully the next congressman will be able to read a balance sheet.
- tom, manchester,nh

I love that the author of this story, ALEX ISENSTADT, was still in college in Pennsylvania when Carol won in 2006.
Where did he get his information? From people in politics?
And he doesn't even mention that she's on way more committee's and sub-committees than nearly any of her contemporaries. Why don't we hear from her as often as we used to - She's busy working.
Seriously - can we get some real journalism here or can we rehash opinion political blog sites?
- Kate, Manchester

Shea-Porter rode the emotional coat tails of Americans growing wary of the war in Irag in 2006.

Now that the war is winding down, she and others who rode the same coat tails are being exposed and voted out
- Harry, Atkinson

CSP has always been a radical leftist. She got elected with that folksy "Mrs Smith goes to Washington". theme. Now she is what she accused Jeb Bradley of being and a whole lot more. CSP accused Bradley of voting with President Bush 85 % percent of the time, now she votes with Obama and Pelosi 90-100 % of the time. She accused Bradley of taking money from the committee of GOP congressman under investigation. Since 2006 Carol Shea Porter has taken money from Charlie Rangel and Jack Murtha's committees and has not returned it. Both men are under federal investigation. CSP has also voted to keep pork projects for Rangel and Murtha alive in appropriations bills. Yes Carol Shea Porter has grown in Washington. She has gown into the corrupt arrogant politician everybody loves to hate.
- Chris, Merrimack

Carol is doing a fine job, anyone who’s taken the time to look up her vote record will clearly see she actually works for the people of NH. Keep up the good work Carol. As far as taking Jeb Bradley’s word for anything are you serious? Jeb spent his entire career selling out NH and its residents. Jeb just wants to go back and finish destroying what’s left. This article is a complete hack job but I’d expect nothing less from the Union Leader.
- Jim, Raymond NH

"Has Washington changed Carol Shea-Porter?"
That's a rhetorical question, right?

"Turn Your Back on Bush"
How dare Rush Limbaugh say he wants Obama to fail?
- ck, manchester

Carol Shea-Porter has gone from being the representative form New Hampshire to being the Democrat Party's representative to New Hampshire. Instead of listening to what her constituents are saying and bringing it to Washington, she comes back to New Hampshire to try and sell us on what Washington is doing. Her new title should be Rep. Shea-Porter(D- Pelosi).
- WS, Manchester

No, Shea-Porter has not changed. She was not qualified to represent us in Washington when first elected, and remains unqualified today, having failed to grow into the role she obtained. But it is not her fault, we are the ones to blame for sending an individual so obviously underqualified intellectually to such a demanding and daunting role. Thankfully folks are waking up to the mistake made in electing her, and soon will send her back to what she seems to master best; obscure t-shirt protester!
