One more for my Catholic exclusion list (I'm sure there's more)
EXCEPT if you don't put enough in the collection basket every week....
- Brian, Concord
Jim B- Manchester:
You are 100% correct. How can anyone expect Bishop McCormack or any of our Catholic leaders to start excommunicating people after seeing the sins that they committed?
I am a lifelong Catholic, and I love the double standards. Sure, you are welcome in our church....
EXCEPT if you've had an abortion.
EXCEPT if you are divorced.
EXCEPT if you are homosexual.
EXCEPT if you live with someone without being married.
EXCEPT if you have had sex before marriage.
EXCEPT if you use contraceptives.
Yet-- our priests, many of whom have cobwebs in their closets that you never, ever want to know about, are telling us what to do and are saying that I am going to a very warm place in the ground when I die? BS man...
- Brian, Concord
What a bunch of sore losers... Go Jeanne!
- Steve, Concord
Can you imagine if a sitting male senator, who became lost in the basement of the building he "worked" in, said "the building was clearly laid out by a group of women"?
ha-ha-ha what a joke....
- Dan, Hampstead
Luke from Bristol. God Bless You. You have said it very well.
Abortion has NO place in American Politics. If Obama does one thing right in his tenure, he will relegate it to non-political status.
NOBODY has the right to tell anybody what to do with their personal life.
That includes whether or not to have a child, what to eat, drink, where to live, what car to drive, which medical procedure to have or which gender they choose to cleave themself unto.
- sandy, thornton
It's a foetus, JB NB, (fetus in America) when we want to allow for killing it; otherwise, it's a baby. As in asking a pregnant woman how her baby is doing, and having a baby shower.
A recent report in the Washington Times from yesterday says many young women are pressured into having abortions by embarrassed parents and responsibility-avoiding boyfriends.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/jan/18/forced-to-abort/
One need not be Catholic or even religious to acknowledge abortion--a right Shaheen protects without qualification--is the deliberate taking of human life, often for invalid reasons. Rape, incest, or the life of the mother accounts for a very tiny percentage of abortions, which is usually an elective procedure.
- Brent, Moultonborough
JB, NB
The public right to have stupid ideas in NH are very much welcomed. How is ending legal murder of a child while exercising your "right" to an abortion and expecting adults to be responsible for their actions that might lead to a pregnancy restrictive? Last time I check, unless raped, sex between adults is mutually agreed upon, yet, abortion seems to be a very one-sided decision with the least able not having any say.
So how does your love of rights afforded by "live free or die" apply to an un-born child or the mentally retarded or.... you fill in the next group that is no longer a human, therefore it has no rights? You fail to recognize what a human life is.....
Remember the imperial japanese and nazi's justified their treatment of non-humans as well. How about Dred Scott? I guess it was O.K. for a black man in certain States to have no rights either for a while too.....
Funny I find the support for a "right" that was settled in a court, which members of today such as Ginsberg, so seriously understand that if a legal challenge to abortion goes to the SCOTUS, it will be overturned under the "privacy" jurisprudence, hence Ginsberg is actively encouraging the "research" to enshrine abortion under the interstate commerce act vs. the very thin ice of "privacy".
I guess reading into your ideology what you really mean is: Live Free if you make it out alive and Die via abortion with no say if your a fetus? Free Stater? I am betting you want to legalize pot and stop paying taxes too!
- Bill, Rye
These are the people who bought your Senate seat, New Hampshire.
- Tom, Campton
They give the title "Emily's List" to convey it as some important humanitarin cause when all it is is a group that encourages women to kill their babies.
shame on our Senator and all those left wingwrs who think abortion is about "women's health".
- mike, east kingston
Actually Bill, Tom's views are welcome in NH. Something about Live Free or Die lends a lot more to people who exercise their rights, rather than trying to restrict them.
I am far from a fan of Jeanne Shaheen, but if this shrill voice against her is my only option of company to keep, then I have to reconsider my stance.
Keep abortion safe and legal. It's a fetus.
- JB, NB, NH
I am in favor of abortion , but not to be used as an on-going birth control methos.
I know two women who were on the pill but got pregnant anyway.
They could not afford to go ahead with pregnancy, let alone have a child.
All these pro-life people should take a step back and ask themselves these questions-
Can you- yourself afford to take time off from your job to be pregnant? Keep in mind some women are bedridden almost from the time of conception.
Can you afford the cost of medical care for the pregnancy and delivery? Keep in mind there are women who can't afford medical care, but make too much to qualify for medicaid. Also remember that the state can take your house and whatever else you own if you don't pay it back. Yes, I have known folks that this has happened to.
Can you pay to raise that child for 18+years? I am talking ALL that the child needs in case the father can't pay up. Again, medicaid not an option.
If you answered yes to these questions, then I suggest you go out and sponsor a pregnant woman and adopt her child.
Until you can do that, then you should stop standing on street corners screaming at women who can't make any other choice.
You will be the first ones looking down your noses at a woman who can not care for her child because she doesn't have enough money. Not everyone is a crackhead that has kids. Some have made the choice to have the child, but then those kids live in poverty and almost always end up with the wrong crowd.
Put up or shut up.
- Luke, Bristol
I totally disagree with Shaheen and think is it horrible that she is given money for a political stance supporting the killing of a life (especially when she is supposed to be a Catholic).
On a totally different side note, I'd love to know who is picking out her crazy outfits *and fire them) because she is beginning to freek me out with the clothes she wears. The purple/pink thing she has on in this picture looks like it came from the Cruella Deville collection.
- Ben Thomas, Manchester, New Hampshire
To LJC in Manchester...you are incorrect. The right wing did not have "their time" and messed it all up. The republicans blew it by moving left. They ditched their right wing constituents and moved left. Hence, the right wing stayed home the past few cycles because why should they vote for republicans when they are no better than democrats? That was the feeling in the right wing and that is partly the reason the democrats are now being allowed to pillage our state.
Regarding the "grownups" cleaning up our mess...are these the same grownups who voted in a nanny-state government because these grownups do not want to have to take care of themselves? Interesting. I'm not too confident in the new crop of "grownups." I'm looking forward to the new administration pushing us so far to the left that come 2012, the right wing you speak so poorly about will wake up and push us back towards the self-governing, constitutional Republic that we are supposed to be (that is, if we can survive the next 4 years). There will always be a place you can go though where you can be well taken care of. Papa Castro could use some new workers in the quarry. Free health care...think about it.
- Mike, Temple
Tom,
You obviously do not have children, is it not half the equation of life from a man? If you do, I would like to hear from you the joy of having your daughter or son's girlfriend/wife abort, your grand children! I mean after all your grandchildren aren't people till when, they are born or until they can support themselves, just where is the line for self supporting life? If we take this reasoning far enough I could probably determine that you are not self supporting in life therefore you are not a person and you should be aborted. This irony here is this type of thinking is thrown out for criminals, oooh lets give the convicted felon every benefit of the doubt and "re-hab" option at the expense of the taxpayers money and security. And then, take the most defenseless life legally via abortion and thanks to the Liberals with out parental notification for teenagers.
I guess it's ok to bash men and ensure that Fathers have no rights??? How does that fit with the "consumer advocacy" that Nader dribbles about is that thought process?
Tom, your views are welcomed in MA.
- Bill, Rye
To Mike D, Weare re Bishop McC-Bishop McC should have been excommunicated along with Law, Daily and the rest of that perp ring in Boston-I agree with you on Shaheen, but at this point in time, the RC Church hierarchy unfortunately doesn't have a whole lot of room to lecture anyone on morals.
- Jim B, Manchester, NH
It is good to see people speak up not be silenced during the Obama honeymoon.
- Chris, Merrimack
Disgusting. Sick. A supposed Catholic Woman getting an Pro-Choice (baby killer) Award. She should be excommunicated. I hope the Bishop has the fortitude to do it.
- Mike D, Weare NH
I was going to say that even though I am a liberal person and voted Nader, I dislike Shaheen because of her horrendous public speaking style. She is such a weak speaker, utterly unconvincing and tiring to listen to, that she can't get her points across to me. I can't stand listening to her.
But in the face of the many ignorant chauvinist rednecks posts here I am going to give her a nice long look and second try, be patient with support and give a couple terms. She must be doing something right to bring out the low crawling animals in such force.
As for abortion, it's a great great thing indeed. Before abortion was legally available to women they were very much slaves to the physical dominance of men and the result was many worthless marriages based on unplanned pregnancy. Bravo abortion when opted for by women! The idea that a fetus is a person with rights is straight out of some medieval fairy tale that men want to live in for the rest of time. Abortion - safe and legal and non of your business!
Women, don't let the rednecks lay a guilt trip on you, it's YOUR body, YOUR right to privacy.
- Tom Labrie, Rochester
First if she was lost, why didn't she ask for directions. Agree with Harry, Wolfboro, she will be just as lost on her last day, and still be blaming it on men.
And can I add, I was honored just as highly last week myself. I received a personal offer to join the Publishers Clearinghouse.
- Bob H, Londonderry
Congrats Senator Shaheen! Way to go!
I'm So proud to have voted for Jeanne!
- Rae Stern, Bedford NH
Senator Death gets her reward. Great news and not a surprise...
NH deserves it for voting her in Office.....again! What were we thinking to vote in a perpetually red suited women that hates men and has a mullet? Shocked? Why?
Votes have consequences, just ask the Palestinians with casting their lot with Hamas.
P.S. I doubt the UL will post my comments. They usually don't, I guess the 1st Amendment only applies if your a liberal and are "nice" on the playground of politics.
- BilL, Rye
When are the right wing nuts going to realize that the people of New Hampshire and the of the United States have repudiated their selfish, mean-spirited approach to politics? Folks, you had your chance and you hosed it big time. Now shut up and let the grown ups clean up your mess.
- LJC, Manchester
It just makes me sick that this group of whackos gives her an award and she hasn't done anything!
Sounds like some political favors are in order.
You think they would have been smart enough to wait for her to be in office for a while before they "honor" her.
Real smart people.
I hope that the men out there remember her stupid comment about the building when she wants something from them.
And I will go one further and hope the men that voted for her (as delusional as they are) like the slap in the face she gave them.
If it was a man talking about a woman like that- there would be all kinds of groups wanting his head on a platter.
- Pauline, Franklin
Thanks for standing up for choice, particularly on a day when some will stand against it. Abortion should be safe, legal and infrequent. Through proper education, crime prevention, improvements in medicine and availability of contraceptives, abortion should be unneccessary.
- Jay, Nashua
Shaheen will be just as lost on her last day in the Senate, I still can't believe NH voted this person into the United States Senate. Bring back John Sununu!
- Harry, Wolfeboro
"...the building was clearly laid out by a group of men." Take that, Mr. Man!
Why is it that women can get away with denigrating men in public (ads, films, the media), but men get a fast ticket to sensitivity training (or worse) if they criticize women in the same way?
And, by the way, if women like Ms. Shaheen dislike/disdain men so much, then why do they continue to have sex with them -- creating babies that "need" to be aborted?
- JBrown, Wentworth
This is especially ironic, since yesterday was Sanctity of Human Life Sunday.
- Peter Gattinella, Kingston
I do not ascribe primary blame to Jeanne Shaheen the Abortion Queen for winning the campaign. Her ravenous lust for the abortion-death-choice has been well documented throughout her years. Those who voted for her and those who neglected to vote against her are summarily responsible. Those who discussed her candidacy before the election and knew her pro-abortion stance -- but were too timid to defend the babies and moms (and dads who wanted their babies) -- are responsible. Does anyone think her scheming, seething, appetite for abortion-on-demand (including taxpayer funded abortion) is going to be abated by becoming a US Senator? Nah, she aims higher, where she can be even more effective promoting abortion despite the wake of anguish and consequences. When "Senator" no longer gives her a sizzle, she will go for "President", er I mean "Queen." Her oft-worn red suits and dresses are most befitting, in more ways than one.
- Ed Holdgate, Sandown, NH
That must feel like one heck of a compliment being honored by a group and being given money by them only for having the political stance of supporting the murder of an unborn child.
- Casey Johnes, Manchvegas
What was NH thinking when they elected this one to the US Senate. God help her realize the evil and dangers of abortion- it's not pro-choice, it's pro-death. I am disappointed with voters that just don't get it. 40 million babies killed in the womb since 1973. One of them could have beat her for the seat she now holds. Pray!
- disappointed, manchester
