The House Finance Committee has recommended that the state restore $314,394 in funding to the Claremont, Colebrook, Keene and Milford District Courts. Oh, the hypocrisy!
Rep. Chris Nevins, R-Hampton, has introduced a bill to create a state "aeronautical fund" which would finance maintenance and capital improvements at all airports open to the public.

Shaheen's support: Does the health bill have it?
Reps. Carol Shea-Porter and Paul Hodes came out proudly in support of the House health care "reform" bill earlier this month. Hodes issued a news release touting his support, and Shea-Porter e-mailed the media to direct reporters to a video in which she spoke on the House floor in favor of passing the bill.
Sen. Judd Gregg has been so outspoken in opposition to the Senate's version of the bill that we have lost count of the news releases and statements he has issued denouncing it. (You can see his latest in today's column. Click here.)
That leaves the fourth member of New Hampshire's congressional delegation: Jeanne Shaheen. On Saturday, Shaheen made a crucial vote to allow the Senate's bill on the floor for debate. It was the most important vote to date in her short Senate career. And yet her office issued no news release.
In fact, Shaheen's office has issued no statement either for or against the bill. She has spoken in favor of some of the bill's goals. But by avoiding direct advocacy of the bill, she has left herself a whole lot of wiggle room.
Shaheen's constituents know where all of New Hampshire's other federal officeholders stand on these bills. They deserve to know where she stands, too.

Now here's a surprise. A collection of angry cranks who say they didn't vote for Shaheen don't want her to support the health care reform she included in her campaign. Fortunately, the majority of New Hampshire voters proved that they're more sane and sensible than teabaggers and free staters by electing Senator Shaheen last year.
And by all means, please, purge the Republican party of Snowe and Collins. It worked so well for them when Specter saw he wouldn't win a Republican primary, after all! Please make sure to tell both ladies from Maine vehemently and frequently that they'll never win another Republican primary. They only have three years to start showing Democratic party loyalty if they switch now, so they'd better get started!

Well the country got what it deserves. I served this country once when I thought the peope believed in the many ideals that made this country great. What a dope.
- Al, Windham
Shaheen will vote whichever way she is told to vote.......lest her DNC money be pulled. Some independent thinker we lected there! Hack!
- Patrick Englehart, Bedford, NH
Reps. Carol Shea-Porter, Paul Hodes, and Jeanne Shaheen all replied to me as they support the bill. I am glad I never voted for them nor will ever vote for them. All three of them are taking NH away from everything that makes this state so great. Good luck in 2010 for our reps. Was proud to live in NH, but that pride is going away rapidly.
- Joel, New Boston
Shaheen will march in "lockstep" with the democrats. Remember those commercials in her campaign?
For all of you whom voted for Obama, Shaheen, Hodes, and Shea-Porter, how is that change working out for you? You will be taxed for Health Care, taxed for cap & trade, and now taxed for the Afghanistan war! You got what you deserved....
- Anthony, Londonderry
I have absolutely no doubt how Shaheen will vote on the Healthcare Reform Bill. She will vote however Obama, Reid and Pelosi tell her to vote and the citizens of NH be damned. I have received enough letters back from her stating her position to know where they told her to stand. We peons know not what is good for us. The almighty Democratic Party will tell you whats good for you. Well comrade, I do hope that we all remember these clowns come November. I know I will.
- John D., Danbury
Folks, even if Shaheen said said that she was opposed to the Senate version of the bill would you believe her?
Remember how once upon a time we had a governor who "took the pledge" not to institute a state income or sales tax in order to gain the throne, and then promptly allowed the State Supreme Court to illegally shove a state-wide property tax down our throats?
It is something that plagues us to this day.
What makes any of you think that she would do anything at all to impede our leftist president's relentless desire to enslave us?
She is one of "them". She was a director at the Harvard School of Government for Pete's sake.
What do you suppose is taught at a "school of government"? How people should be free to live their own lives without government interference? Sure ....
Perhaps the question we should be asking is how much is health-care reform (sic) really going to cost the people of the state of New Hampshire?
I'll bet our current governor is curious too.
- GUI, Manchester
This is an actual question to ask??? Mr Reid knows how she'll vote because he already told her how she'll vote. Lock-Step in with the Pelosi Puppets (Hodes & Shea-Pelosi)
- Mike, Nottingham
How is it possible anyone would have to ask, or not know, were Jeanne Shaheen stands on health care reform? This is fantastic.
- Wally, Manchester, NH
As one who knows what will spew out of Jeannie, I don't bother reading her e-mails. I just report as spam and delete.
If you have a fair amount of time on this earth, you shouldn't be surprised where she squats on an issue.
- Michael, Manchester
Once again, who is writting her OP-ED's? Obvisouly someone who has never attempted to contact Ms. Shaheen. As previously writters have stated, what you get from her office, either verbal or in writting is a generic letter that tells you absolutely what her position is and has been long before she was elected to the office! Wake up NH! We are on the verge of loosing our freedoms, liberty and republic! She and the Pelosi/Reid/Obama Liberal Machine is going to stop at nothing to push as much socialized government into our government as they can before 2012. However, we still hold the power because we hold the pen! VOTE in 2012 to get these charlotans, thieves out of our government! Vote Republican Values..small government, fiscal responsibility, pro-life, We the people.....
- Dee Bourgeois, Weare, NH
Looks like one term will be it and its all because of the health care support, to bad the delegates from the live free or die state are such blind followers.
- Rich, Winchester
Where does Shaheen stand? Here are some snippets from an email she sent me:
"It's time to hold health insurance companies accountable. In America,
it should be against the law to deny coverage to people with
pre-existing conditions such as diabetes, cancer, or heart disease. It
should be against the law to cap insurance coverage so that patients
lose their coverage right when they need it most."
"And, nobody should have to lose their health insurance when they lose their job. "
"...we also need to create some affordable options for the 30 million Americans
with no health care at all. I support a public option that would
encourage competition in the insurance market and provide an affordable
option for the uninsured."
"The time to reform our health care system is now. We cannot wait any
longer."
- Carl Bussjaeger, Lyndeborough
She'll do what all NH democrats do, delete Pelosi's and insert theirs. Comrades, the party must stay together regardless of your constituents.
- Paul, Candia
There is no question, just send her an email and you'll find out quickly that Shaheen has been blindly supporting anything Harry Reid and the anti-constitutional/anti-American Democrats have been pushing including Health Care. She does NOT represent New Hampshire and will not budge on her devotion to the Liberal cause no matter how devastating it is to our state.
- Lawrence, Amherst, NH
Why doesn't Jeanne, have some "real" Town Hall meetings (unlike Carol's that were only 1 hour and had 1/2 the audience SEIU members from MA) and ask us what she should do? Just check ID's at the door and only allow NH residents in. What a novel concept, ask your constituents how to vote!
- Gary Hoffman, Bedford, NH
It's too bad Miss Shaheen was not looking out for the people of New Hampshire instead of simply being a party hack and doing as she is told. She could have pretended not to be a full fledged socialist and held out, then Pelosi and friends would have offered her a few hundred million dollars in freshly printed bribe money also known as stimulus money for the state. Now all we will get is the huge bill and threat of punishment for this health care fiasco.
And someone please tell me why Olympia Snow and Susan Collins are still allowed in the Republican Party with such a dismal record on supporting conservative beliefs? Get the house in order please as I have no intentions of supporting a party that does not stand behind its own principals. And claiming you won’t raise taxes is not enough now that we are all poorer from the liberal tax and fee hikes. If they can be enacted they can be repealed and all that is needed are politicians who know how hard the middle class is being hit right now and who care more about the people they claim to serve rather than doing what is best for government expansion. Don’t be arrogant democrats afraid of an upset population hiding behind conference calls and come out here and talk to us. Throw a weekend long barbecue with music, food and beer with a podium for any citizen to stand up and talk to his fellow citizen and you. You just might learn something and we will get the chance to see if Republicans know how to listen. We can call it Patriotstock. I'll be happy to volunteer my time since I now have little money left to donate.
- Deb, Derry
I've written to Shaheen on this (and many other issues), and I've gotten a response - she certainly does support this piece of crap legislation. In fact, what I got out of her canned letter was this - she'll support ANY health care "reform" bill.
Don't blame this voter for having Shaheen in there. I most certainly did not vote for her.
My left shoe could do a better job than what she's doing. And it's much less dangerous.
- Bess, Concord
Whoever elected this woman made as big an error in judgement as the country did when they elected 'Spender in Chief-' Obama. Higher taxes, destructive and useless bills and a wasteful stimulus, with a deficit of trillions. UnAmerican.
- Mark, Lee, NH
Spike - I would have thought that last year, but this bill is too big and too bad for our country to forget her voting in favor. While she may not have yet, everything I have gotten in replies tells me she has made her mind up. I hope I am wrong, but I have no reason to believe otherwise. She has helped write this bill that will put the final nail in our coffin. I wish more people would take the time to read the bill. They hope to find this bill on taxing Americans and by the anticipated fines. It makes insurance so much higher in cost that I will be forced to pay the fine, because I will not be able to afford the record high premiums, and the yearly cost that is expected to go up on average $3,000 per household. If I cannot afford to pay the fines I will be put in jail. This is what we are supposed to be protected from. It makes no sense to me, I think allowing state lines to be lifted, stopping tort lawyers from bogus lawsuits, and many other suggestions would work better. But I am starting to think it is not about insuring, but about the government taking another 16% of the private sector. I think they want more power and this will give it to them and destroy the remainder of the economy in the process. We all know how they have killed anything they run, the proof is undeniable. What will make health care different. People need to speak up and make sure they know what they are talking about. Stop listening to what they say and read the bill. It is all there in black and white. Middle and lower class will be hurt the most. It's not a party issue we have corruption on both sides, but I will stand behind whomever votes against it, and Spike I promise you regardless of how it comes out I will not forget!!
- Stacey, Manchester
Isn't it interesting that Ms Shaheen ALWAYS responds to her consituent emails with the "same response" over and over again, regardless of what issue we contact her about. Truly shows that she could care less about what any of us think.
- Dennis, Merrimack, NH
Based on the form emails I receive in response to my messages to her office I would say she is an automatic vote for whatever terrible piece of legislation Reid and Co. come up with. That doesn't mean we should stop letting her know we are opposed to government health care. Keep calling and emailing her office. Make it clear she continues to vote against the wishes of her constituents.
- Mark, Amherst
Supporters of this legislation advocate theft and coercion as tools of acquisition.
- Herb, Hooksett
I saw part of Senator Shaheens appearance on the boob tube. THere was no doubt in my mind where she stood, firmly in the camp that thinks destroying the health care of the majority to cover 12- 14 million who lack it is a good idea. She may have wiggle room, and I hope she, unlike Shea-Pelois or "spineless" hodes actually listens to the voters of NH and uses her brain. We do not need a 2000 + page bill full of pork and "beans" to fix the health care issues that we have. Congress should follow the hippocratic oath, especially the part that says first, do no harm.
- jeff, Goffstown
I have called Senator Shaheen's office many times to ask the question of where she stands on specific parts of the bill. I've gotten the scripted response from her 20 year old aides that answer the phone at the Capitol. I would think the UnionLeader has the power to contact the Senator and ask her for specific answers to the hard questions that she won't respond to from me. Her phone number is (202) 224-3121. Maybe you can catch her while she's home for the holidays.
- jem, rye
Except for a couple of things Spike: we may be broke by then, our tax bill will be higher than our paycheck, there will be no more "illegal" aliens in the US, but we'll have an additional 30 million new "citizens" and welfare recipients, we may all be on welfare, we'll have no guns, no gas, no oil, less jobs and we will have surrendered to the Taliban and Muslims all over the world.
- Melvin, Keene
What you'll see is a press release with the name PELOSI scratched out and SHAHEEN inserted just like all the NH reps. People if you think they care for NH you are wrong/ It is the PARTY comrades, that's all!
- Ray, Raymond
As a tax and spend Democrat where would anyone think she is? Why would she treat the Country any different than the State of NH. She left the state in debt so she'll leave the country in debt. We lost Sununu for this? Well, you voted for "Hope & Change", you got it. Now we can only hope for change in "10" & "12". The voters of NH need to get back to fiscal responsibility.
- Michael king, Epping
She'll announce her position as soon as someone tells her what it is. Do you suppose that, maybe just for a fleeting momemt, the people of NH that elected her ask themselves "what was I thinking?"
- Leo, Canterbury
In 2014, on the weekend before the November election, lawn signs will again start appearing at highway intersections, misstating some position of Shaheen's opponent, and they will look like the signs made by his campaign. It's inconceivable that a vote five years earlier will register in the minds of voters.
