Baseball is a team effort. TEAM means Together Everyone Accomplishes More. Manny is a Prima Donna and what he says is not in the best interest of the team.
Good riddance!

JB, NB, NH, what the hell is a pure hitter??? does that mean they never find anything in his urine samples?

Brian--I never said Manny Ramirez was the greatest player ever, nor the greatest thing since sliced bread. Your statements exemplify the pathetic state of the so-called 'Red Sox Nation'. You blow things out of proportion and whip yourselves into a frenzy and the lynch mob starts their chanting. Manny isn't the spoiled brat--Red Sox Nation is. Like some obscene form of entitlement, you all expect championships to rain from the sky and expect the prima donnas playing the sport to be saints. It doesn't work that way. Manny Ramirez is what he is--a relatively uneducated guy with a tremendous natural ability. And he is also one of the best hitters in the history of the league. The last such talent to grace the Sox may have been Ted Williams. Rice, Yaz, Evans all had great seasons, but none of them could sustain the run that Manny has had at the plate.
Best thing since sliced bread? Not at all. But don't even begin to claim that players like Manny Ramirez are a dime a dozen. You'll be an old man before the Red Sox have another 500 HR hitter in his prime.
- JB, NB, NH
I personally disagree with everyone who wants to see Manny go. He is a great hitter and no one can deny him that despite his spoiled brat tantrums. When he whacks that ball and runs home, I scream "I LOVE MANNY!" The Sox need him and although I think he will be going, I think we will suffer for it. We have a great team, Ortiz, JD, Youk, Lowell and oh that Ellsbury! Go Sox!
- MLD, Litchfield
I use to listen to my other half rib Manny during the games for his poor attitude and his lack of drive on the field. He would say that Manny being Manny isnt what a professional ball player should be. I didnt see it that way at the time however since the incident with the club secretary happened I lost all respect for this person and a Boston Red Sox. I say let him go and a big horray for Francona for having the class to downplay "Manny being Manny". I hope he is happy playing elsewhere because I sure wont miss him playing for Boston. Perhaps NY will pick him up and make him cut his hair and act like a man.
- Diane, Moultonboro
Hey manny, I will definitely watch you play....when you are in Iraq. Until then. Not.
- john, nashua
Let him go if he wants to go. He's old anyhow. Noone is gonna wanna pay him much once he hits 38. He's a clown and I am sick of his laziness.
- Deb, Hooksett
JB, NB - No, Manny isn't the graetest thing Boston has seen since sliced bread. And Manny's not the greatest baseball player, either. A great baseball player doesn't cause problems for the team; a great baseball player doesn't sit out games "just because"; a great baseball player doesn't jog down to first base; a great baseball player doesn't put in a so-so effort. Manny is not a great baseball player. He's a spoiled brat and he should be dealt with as a spolied brat.
- Brian, Farmington
Beating up an old guy was the final straw for me. Jonathan, Manny was put on waivers (i.e. ANY team can have him for nothing - they just have to pay him) and no one wanted him. They put him on waivers to prove a point to him - HE WAS UNTRADABLE AT THAT TIME. They wanted to get him to see the light that he can request trades all he wants but it's was an impossibility at that time. Stop making excuses or at least get your facts right. Manny is a 1st ballot HOF for sure and it won't be a big argument over what hat he wears to the induction ceremony because Manny won't even show up. Bye bye Manny.
- Mike, Concord
Manny says he will go play ball in Iraq? Well then let him. This is an overpaid ballplayer who pushes around a 60plus year old man and people still feel he should be kept around just to win a stupid world series. I say release him. Get rid of him. Trade him. Whatever it takes just get rid of him. I would rather sacrifice a pennant than deal with Manny any longer. Maybe the word "integrity" should be used more often. What is worth more...a world series or integrity?
- Mike, Manchester
Francona has no backbone. He let Dice K turn his back to him on the mound; he continues say nothing as Youk pulls a nutty every time he gets out (70% of the time), all to often refuses to pinch hit for Lugo, Coco, or Jason, when the game is on the line and lets Manny do what Manny does. He's a "players manager", i.e. a wussy.
- Greg Salts, gregsalts@msn.com
Spoiled, ungrateful, bereft of loyalty, overinflated ego and overpaid are all words that I would use to describe Manny as well as many other players as well. Long gone are the days of the players that truely played baseball for the love of the game, who played as a team and not as glory hounds! Today we have too many who only play for the love of money and the spotlight. It's too bad that we can't have a salary cap in place as to the maximum a ball player can be paid. Think about it, if a cap of 5 million a year were in place and a player's career only lasted 3 years, that's still 15 million dollars! Even if you only played one year, who couldn't live comfortably on that? Too many hard working people struggle hard every day to earn a living just to heat their homes, put food on their table and put gas in their car. Ingrates like Manny should be ashamed of themselves, they live the lives that most can only dream about, yet somehow I guess it just isn't enough?
- Rob, Manchester
What happened to Manny just a few weeks ago "I never want to leave Boston, I love Boston, I want to end my career here...I'm with Mike...bye bye Manny!
- Rachel, Nottingham
one of the best pure hitters in the history of the league...that this discussion happens every year is one reason why Red Sox fans are the WORST fans in the league...the guy is a baseball player...a future first ballot to Cooperstown and all the focus is always on his eccentric behavior...it embarasses me to see these so-called RSN fans complaining about a guy whose talents may never be seen again in Boston in their lifetime...
- JB, NB, NH
The Red Sox put Manny on waivers at the end of the 2003 season. They have never wanted him. Can you imagine working somewhere where you know your employer doen't want you. This is what Manny has gone through the last 5 years. The Red Sox are fools to let him go and the media feeds into it. If JD Drew or Mike Lowell missed the Friday night game because of a sore knee would anyone have even cared. No! Manny is getting drivin out of town for no reason. If they trade him they will not make the playoffs. Lets see how Ortiz does without Manny behind him. This is totally different then Nomar in 04. He hardly played before he was traded and wasn't going to contribute after because he was injured. Keep Manny!
- jonathan, manchester
I would love to see this guy on a team whose managers or owners really came down on him for all the crap he pulls. He has no idea how good he has it here in Boston.
He'd take a trade to any team, huh? Well, let's trade him to a team like the Royals and see how he likes playing on a horrible team with 1/4 of the stadium full, and he won't ever smell the playoffs.
- Justin, Manchester
I don't usually comment on the sports articles,but...
Manny is no longer being Manny.
Manny is being a complete and inexcusable JERK!
I have been one of his biggest fans, over the years.
That ended a few weeks ago when Manny knocked the Red Sox travelling secretary(an elderly gentleman)to the ground.
Manny can not be gone soon enough.
- Mike P., Manchester
We have been Red Sox fans since 1985, when we moved to New England. Now we live in Michigan and are still Red Sox fans. We are dissappointed that Manny is tired ofthe Red Sox. Does this mean he's tired of the fans too? Sox fans are the best fans in the nation; fans in good and bad times. No matter where he goes, he won't have the same support. Well, Manny you've lost mine, just go and don't let the door hit you in the butt when you leave!
- Rick Szczesniak, Flint, MI
I don't care what Manny's batting average is....he is pathetic....has no clue what "good sport" means...and it is unfair for his coaching staff; his teammates; or us, THE FANS, to put up with his arrogance. LET HIM GO!!!!!
- Barb L, Goffstown
Bye Bye Manny. Enough with it's just "Manny being Manny." Let Manny go be Manny somewhere else...
- SeacoastSports, Exeter
