$413.6 million. 34 Full time jobs created. 16 part-time jobs created. All of those hack jobs we saved....Priceless!
- Mike, Antrim
Like in Australia - thats a lot of debt piling up that has to be paid back oneday.
What is disappointing is the small number of jobs being created.
Has anyone figured out how much each job is costing the taxpayer ?
- Geoff Sidebottom, Wollongong. Australia
Just like the other states, NH will see more Stimulus money spent when incumbents for federal offices begin to campaign for 2010. That was the unstated purpose for a lot of it anyway.
- Gary Sigler, Auburn, IL
What I find amusing is that I have friends who are democrats now asking why we are spending so much money yet seeing little in return. Obama better be careful, he's quickly cementing his legacy as Jimmy Carter's new replacement!
- Mike, Epping
Not to mention that the "stimulus" was to create so many million jobs and yet, we have lost MORE jobs than we have created.
The only people who aren't outcrying to this ridiculous administration are the people benefiting from all this nonsense.
- Ann, Derry
I think the stimulus program is well intended but to spend the money on projects that are not labor intensive, is a waste of money. For example, millions of dollars are being spent on resurfacing our roads. Very few (if any) new hires will ever result from that. Now, put that same money into buildings and/or bridge construction work, and you really have something.
- Doug, Concord
The Treasury reported today that Obama's budget deficit for the current fiscal year topped $1 trillion last month, more than doubling the previous record of $454 billion set last year by President Bush. Projections are that Obama's deficit this year will top $2 trillion, more than quadrupling the previous record.
There's your "stimulus" in action.
- Tom, Campton
Wow...what a joke.
Just curious...but can someone tell me what the criteria was to receive a stimulus check that so many received in the last few months? I'm curious as to why I didn't get any.
I should write to Obama and quit my job..then maybe I'd get some in a more timely fashion.
- Jen, Derry
I can save the federal government millions right off the bat: why not just give me $1 million dollars cash. I can create all sorts of stimulus with it.
- adlibn, Redlands, CA
By the sounds of it only the friends of politicians are going to get the god jobs. I have not seen any "Real Jobs for Real People" yet. As anybody out there?
- Bob, Salem
Ed Holgate could not have said it any better!
It is sad to see our elected officials brazenly taken borrowed money and calling it a stimulus. Look what New hampshire really got, a grossly inflated state budget that we can not afford. Silly congress and the governor spent days arguing if gambling would cover thir gamble to raise the state budget by 20%, again!
The government is not the answer to the economy, they are the root cause of it. They also stand in the way of a free market economy.
- Michael Layon, Derry
Utterly incompetent government trying to control a contry they have no business or qualifications to run. The President and his plans are a failure and if we elect him again we are all fools. Are we there yet?
- Mark Harris, Lee, NH
If you think our taxes and fees went up a lot this year in NH, just wait to see what happens after the stimulus funds stop coming in.
- Kevin, Dover, NH
It seems that nobody is impressed with what is going on with stimulus money, and I agree with them whole heartedly.
What happened to government representing the constituents?
- Bill, Dunbarton
Jack Alex,
Wasn't the first stimulus plan under Bush? I used that check to keep my record of not carrying a credit card balance for 15 years unblemished.
- Texter, Newfields
So far, a total of 50 jobs have been created by the funding???? We got 413 million and created 50 jobs....Wow we got snookered..
- Andy, Milford
This update makes me worry even more that the lasting result of the so-called stimulus will be bigger government and hundreds of billions wasted. $413 million so far to create 34 full-time jobs, 5 of them to oversee program implementation?
Fergus Cullen, ferguscullen@aol.com
- Fergus Cullen, Dover
$400 million to 'create' 50 temporary 'jobs' - that's $8 million per 'job'. More bureaucrats, more red tape, more waste. What a deal!
What a catastrophe.
- Tom, Campton
Two Million Dollars for a new 5 person oversight department, OES, with salaries of less that a half million? The rest of the money must be for travel to blue ribbon conferences, or something really important. I also like the statement that 50 jobs have been created using the 413 Million that has already "flowed" into the State. Uhhhhh Governor, could you please provide details on where those 50 jobs, 34 of which are full time. were created, public or private sector, and are these permanent positions?
- gr chase, Seacoast NH
Well, the unofficial word is in, and probably true, the first Stimulus Plan is a failure. The President and Congress are pondering a second Stimulus Plan.
Meanwhile I am entrenched, not taking vacations, not spending any money, not buying any hard good. My discretionary spending is nil. In fact I found a bank that garuntees that if I put my money in a savings account they will never pay any interest. That suits me fine.
It had to happen, I done turned into "The Hermit". Next on the chopping block, cell phone, expanded cable television and box, gym membership, and canceling my subscription to all magazines and newspapers.
I made peace with the world long ago, if the world can't make peace with itself so be it.
- Jack Alex, Manchester
thats good! lay off or furlough the people who actually perform the work of plowing roads, fixing bridges etc, and hire some more over paid desk jobs. we need to get rid off lynch next election and clean out the rest off them including manning who is also a leach on the tax payers.
