BEDFORD – Gov. Rick Perry doesn't just believe a pro-business government will get the county working again, he says he's proved it in Texas.

That was the theme at this morning's Politics & Eggs event at the Bedford Village Inn, where Perry spoke before a capacity crowd . Hundreds of mostly business professionals came to hear what the newest challenger in a crowded presidential primary race had to say to Granite State voters.

Prior to the breakfast, Manchester attorney Bradford Cook said “I'm here to learn. There's a lot of buzz going on in this room.” But not without some trepidation regarding a Republican governor of Texas running for president. “Been there, done that,” he said.

Photographers snapped shot after shot of Gov. Perry eating breakfast with wife Anita, son Griffin, and former Gov. Stephen Merrill. But Perry was soon at the podium addressing the crowd on how Texas came to create 40% of all new U.S. jobs since 2009 despite President Obama's policies.

“It's time to do this in the U.S. Government,” he said. “Put a limit on and simplify taxes, get your fiscal house in order and restore our credit.”

“Mr. President, actions speak louder than words,” Perry said.

The government, he said, is killing jobs in this country. “It's time to get America working.”

Perry said he's followed a simple recipe for success in the Lone Star State: don't spend, have a tax structure in place as low as possible to provide services, have a regulatory climate that is fair and predictable, have a legal system in place that prevents frivolous lawsuits.

As governor he has cut property taxes, business taxes and state spending, Perry said.

As President, he said, “I want to get America working. We can't have rising taxes and rising debt with 9 million people unemployed. This doesn't feel like a recovery.

“Obama's policies have decreased employment, exploded debt, and lead to the first downgrade of US credit in our history.

“We need a private sector, not a government teacher to stimulate this economy.”

Said Gov. Perry, “I'd like to see us freeze all federal regulations for six months, regulations that are a serious threat to growth."

In 2010, he said, President Obama created 43 new regulations that cost the nation $26 billion. These regulations, he said, are strangling the economy.

“Spending money we don't have sends the wrong message to every sector of the economy,” said Perry.

The Breakfast and Eggs event was sponsored by the New England Council, New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College and dozens of local companies and organizations.
