Headstones vandalized at Salem cemetery

SALEM POLICE DEPARTMENT/VANDALS TOPPLED HEADSTONES IN PINE GROVE CEMETERY IN SALEM ON WEDNESDAY.

SALEM - Vandals toppled 11 gravestones at Pine Grove Cemetery overnight Wednesday.

The vandalism was discovered Wednesday morning by Salem Department of Public Works employees. By late afternoon, all of the gravestones were righted thanks to Colizzi Memorials Inc. of Methuen, Mass., which made the repairs at no cost, according to the Eagle-Tribune of Andover, Mass.

Detectives, who processed the scene, recovered evidence including fingerprints from one of the headstones, police said. Authorities believe kids or teens may be responsible for the vandalism.

Anyone with information about the crime to call them at 893-1911 or the Southern NH Crimeline at 893-6600 to remain anonymous.
