Police: Two officers injured in arresting man on PCP

SALEM - Two officers suffered separated shoulders in arresting and detaining a man who police believe was on PCP.

An “extremely combative” Alfred Figueroa, 34, of 121 Cluff Crossing Road, had to be Tasered several times before he could be arrested Wednesday night at his home, police said.

Officers went there just after 9 p.m. for a reported domestic disturbance and found a 30-year-old woman sobbing with injuries to her face and neck.

Figueroa, who is 5-foot-11 and weighs 225 pounds, was in the bedroom.

Police said he immediately became “extremely combative” and tried to burn an officer in the face with his cigarette. Officers fought with and Tasered him several times before they were able to handcuff him, police said.

At headquarters, when he was told about 11 p.m. he was being taken to the county jail, police said Figueroa unzipped his pants and urinated on the floor then turned and urinated on an officer’s pants and shoes.

In the cruiser on the way to the Brentwood jail, Deputy Chief Shawn J. Patten said Figueroa went crazy, kicked out a rear window and tried to jump out of the police car as it was traveling on Route 107 in Kingston. The officer radioed for help but Figueroa managed to get out of the car.

Police said he charged the officer who took him down into a muddy ditch, Tasered him and held him until officers arrived from Kingston, Brentwood and Fremont.

Figueroa eventually was taken to Exeter Hospital and then to the Brentwood County jail. One officer suffered a separated shoulder and a sprained ankle during the melee and arrest in the apartment. The officer taking Figueroa to the county jail also separated his shoulder in the roadside fracas. Both officers were treated and released from area hospitals and remain out of work.

Figueroa was arrested for simple assault, two counts of assault on a police officer, three counts of resisting arrest, criminal mischief and a felony charge of escape.
