Merrimack woman rescued from blaze by police officers
MERRIMACK - Two police officers rescued a woman from her East Ridge Road condominium after her bedroom caught fire this morning, a fire official said.
The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and the officers checked out for it as well.
Capt. Shawn Allison said a newspaper delivery person spotted the fire at 89 East Ridge Road just before 2:30 a.m. and called the fire department.
Police, first on the scene, forced their way into the residence where they found the woman on the bedroom floor and carried her outside to safety.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze which Allison said was caused by the woman smoking in bed.
Allison did not have the name of the woman who was injured or the names of the officers who rescued her.
