MEREDITH — It was a perfect ending to a perfect season for Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough on Saturday afternoon as it defeated Epping-Newmarket 29-7 to win the Division VI state championship.

The 11-0 Lakers were often dominant over the course of the season, and the championship game was no exception as the team featured a balanced attack on offense and an opportunistic defense that rarely allowed the Blue Devils a chance to get into the game.

All the scoring took place in the first half, and the Lakers offense was paced by quarterback Mitchell Jurius, who threw touchdown strikes to Nick Sindorf and Tanner Quinney, and by the running of Conor Donovan, who scored two touchdowns on the ground and added an impressive 38-yard field goal.

The game started off with promise for the Blue Devils, who showed some spark in the running game on its first possession behind a 30-yard run by Bernie Hutchinson and some hard running by Daniel Espo as they took the ball into Lakers territory before being forced to punt.

The spirited play continued on defense as the Blue Devils forced a three-and-out and Dustin Jarosz returned Donovan's punt to midfield.

After the Blue Devils lost the ball on downs at the Lakers' 31-yard line, things began to click for Jurius and the Lakers offense.

Quinney and Donovan paced the running attack and Jurius was able to mix in some play-action passes to march his team down the field. With four minutes left in the first quarter, Jurius hit Sindorf with a 24-yard pass for the game's first score.

Donovan did most of the damage on the Lakers' next possession, capping it off with a six-yard touchdown run. The Lakers were up 13-0 as Donovan missed the extra point.

The Blue Devils got their biggest play of the day when Jarosz took a handoff at his own 20 and rambled 80 yards down the right sideline for his team's only score.

Jurius and the Lakers quickly answered as they drove down the field with the quarterback throwing his second touchdown of the half, this one an 11-yarder to Quinney.

Donovan's field goal was set up by a fumble recovery on the Blue Devils' next possession. Defensive end John Fownes stripped the ball and linebacker Conor Langille recovered.

The first half, and the game's scoring, was topped off by a 65-yard Donovan run.

In the second half, the Lakers' defense held tough as it forced another fumble and had tight coverage on Blue Devils receivers almost every time Tyler Young went back to pass.

On offense, the Lakers mainly stuck to the ground and were able to control the game and the clock.
