MANCHESTER — President Barack Obama returns to New Hampshire today in his first visit to the state since 2010.

The President is set to speak at Manchester Central High School to promote his proposed American Jobs Act. A motorcade will take Obama from Manchester-Boston Regional Airport to Central, where he is scheduled to speak late morning.

Parking restrictions and road closures are expected in the Central neighborhood and on the automobile route from the airport to the high school. Police on Monday had no information about what specific streets and highways will be affected.

Republican candidate Mitt Romney plans to bracket Obama's visit with a conference call featuring New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte and campaign co-chair Tim Pawlenty.

Romney's campaign also purchased advertising in major New Hampshire newspapers today, and aired its first television ad Monday night, campaign spokesman Ryan Williams said.

Several dozen Romney supporters are expected to rally this morning at Bronstein Park, about a block from Central High.

“Our campaign is going to remind Obama of his failure to create jobs,” Williams said.

Several state and city officials will greet Obama at the airport, including Republican Mayor Ted Gatsas. He said he will not attend the address at Central, citing a prior commitment — a Thanksgiving event at Wilson Elementary School.

Police and school officials have been scrambling to prepare for the President's visit.

“From what I'm told, this is the first time a sitting President has visited Central,” Superintendent of Schools Thomas Brennan said. “I think this is an exceptional opportunity. I know the students are very excited about it.”

This is Obama's first visit to Manchester since the 2008 election campaign and his first in New Hampshire since Feb. 2, 2010, when he spoke to about 1,600 people at the Nashua North High School about his health care reform bill.

In a speech Monday, Obama said he was coming to New Hampshire to promote the American Jobs Act, specifically a tax cut for workers and small business owners. “Independent economists from across the political spectrum have said this proposal is one of the best ways to boost our economy and spur hiring,” Obama said.
