Staff Sgt. Abel Emanuelli and his dog Charlie, an 11-month-old Afghani stray that he adopted through The Puppy Rescue Mission. The organization relies on donations to help soldiers bring their dogs home from the battlefield. Emanuelli had to leave a dog behind when his National Guard unit left Afghanistan last year, but thanks to donations, including some from New Hampshire residents, Charlie has a new home with Emanuelli in Manchester.

MANCHESTER — Charlie, a young dog from Afghanistan with soulful brown eyes and big white paws, is home at last with the city soldier who adopted him.
