Icy roads caused several morning accidents across NH
Patches of ice were the cause of a spate of accidents Monday morning.
Between 7:00 and 9:00 a.m., emergency personnel responded to at least nine accidents, most in the central part of the state. Ice appears to have been the cause in most, if not all, of the accidents.
No major injuries were reported, however, several drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles, including one in Exeter after her car went into a ditch and filled with water.
“We had to cut through the soft top with a knife and then use a ‘Sawzall,’” Exeter Police Lt. Jason Greene said. The woman was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.
There also were accidents in Rochester, Warner and Farmington, where an SUV went off the road and crashed into a tree.
Farmington Fire Chief Richard Fowler said the icy conditions in the morning went beyond isolated spots of black ice. “The roads iced up really quick,” he said. “A lot of roads in town were icy.”
State Police also responded to several spin-outs on the highways caused by ice. Problem spots included Interstate 93 North at exit 23 near New Hampton and Interstate 89 North at exit 18 in Lebanon.
