Walgreens in Manchester robbed
MANCHESTER - Walgreens on the city’s west side was robbed Wednesday night by an agitated man who threatened to “pull the trigger” if employees didn’t hurry up and open the cash register.
Police said the robber never displayed a gun but employees, believing he was armed, did as they were told. Once the till was opened, the robber reached in, grabbed the cash and then fled the store.
The robbery happened just before 10 p.m. at the 227 South Main St. pharmacy.
Police said the man entered the store just before closing. He approached the front counter to buy a drink but instead, with his hands in his pockets, demanded money.
When the clerk was unable to open the drawer, he became upset, threw the drink down an aisle and told her he would pull the trigger if she didn’t hurry. He became increasingly agitated when the clerk couldn’t open the register but he never displayed a weapon, police said.
Finally, the 28-year-old clerk used the public address system to call the manager to the front of the store for help in opening the drawer. The manager told police the robber also threatened to pull the trigger if she didn’t hurry up and open the drawer. Once she opened it, he grabbed the cash and ran out he door.
The robber is described as a white man, 5-foot-3 to 5-foot-4, weighing about 150 pounds. He had green eyes and several days’ growth of beard. He was wearing a brown, zipped, hooded sweatshirt with white and orange writing that possibly read “Abercrombie.” He also wore a dark knit hat with a bill, had a brown scarf covering the lower part of his face and wore dark gloves.
