It’s official: Plymouth's Kiley going to Penn St.
Jake Kiley of Plymouth and the New Hampton School made it official on Wednesday morning: He’s headed to Penn State University to play football.
Kiley signed his letter of intent to accept a Penn State scholarship and was among the early group of recruits listed on the team’s web site.
A quarterback and defensive back at New Hampton, Kiley was listed as a 6-foot-1 and 170-pound defensive back by Penn State. He had 30 tackles and three interceptions as a senior and 47 tackles and four picks as a junior, according to his Penn State bio.
He rushed for eight touchdowns, passed for two and caught five scoring passes as a senior and as a junior rushed for 14 and passed for 10.
By the end of the day, the Penn State list was 19 players strong.
A couple of the state’s top Division I skill players are heading to rival Division 2 colleges in Massachusetts.
Armond McRae, a running back/receiver out of Nashua South, signed his letter of commitment to attended Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass.
Emmitt Smith, a running back from Pinkerton Academy, is bound for Bentley in Waltham, Mass.
McRae will play for John Perry, a former University of New Hampshire wide receiver and assistant coach.
“We think he’s a dynamic player in that he’s very elusive and runs the ball real well,” Perry said. “He’s great in open space and has good speed and good size. He runs hard and he’s tough. We’re real excited about when he gets here and think he’s going to have an opportunity to impact the program early.”
Smith ran for touchdowns of 77 and 78 yards in the Division I championship game for Pinkerton last November. The Astros lost the title game to Exeter, 23-13.
