Fire damages Epsilon Kappa Theta sorority at Dartmouth College

HANOVER - A Dartmouth College student is credited with discovering a fire at her sorority house and pulling the fire alarm to alert other house members to the blaze Saturday night.

No one was hurt in the fire at Epsilon Kappa Theta sorority located on the Dartmouth College campus at 15 Webster Ave., fire officials said in a statement.

Firefighters said they arrived at the house about a minute after the alarm was pulled at 5:46 p.m. to find flames spreading from the second-floor ceiling to the third floor.

Crews struck a first alarm and had the fire under control in about a half hour. They cleared the scene at 9:15 p.m.

The house sustained moderate fire and smoke damage. The college is putting the students up in temporary housing until the house can be repaired, the fire department said in a statement.
