Only in Print: Bill would OK tax on hospital branch sites
State lawmakers have breathed new life into legislation that would require nonprofit hospitals to pay taxes on off-campus properties that are currently considered exempt, a proposal hospitals strongly oppose.
For off-campus properties owned by Manchester’s two hospitals alone, Elliot and Catholic Medical Center, passage of House Bill 1482 would mean an additional $1.9 million a year in property taxes at the 2011 rate, according to Robert Gagne, chairman of the Manchester Board of Assessors.
