Men sought for stripping copper out of abandoned Newport home
GOSHEN - Police are searching for two Newport men wanted for stealing copper from a residence last month.
Vincent Cormier, 38, and Nicholas Newton, 28, are wanted on theft by unauthorized taking/accomplice charges.
"These two individuals are dangerous," said Sgt. Russell Lamson.
He said the copper was removed Jan. 24 from a home on Route 10 that had been abandoned for years.
On Wednesday, police arrested Jessica Stevens, 26 , also of Newport, and charged her with receiving stolen property in connection with the theft. Copper that was stolen was recovered, according to Lamson.
She is free on $2,500 personal recognizance bond pending arraignment April 2 in Newport 5th District Court.
Lamson said he also is investigating a second case where a "significant amount of copper" was stolen Jan. 19 from a vacant home located on Messer Road.
Copper is selling from $2.85 to $3 a pound, depending on its quality, and a pickup truck loaded with the metal can fetch $400 to $1,000, according to Lamson.
Anyone with information about where Cormier or Newton may be found is asked to call police at 863-0700.
