SEABROOK — Police are investigating an accident Tuesday in which a vehicle jumped a guardrail on Route 286 and landed at the edge of the Blackwater River.

The crash happened around 12:30 p.m. when the driver of a GMC Yukon apparently tried to pass another vehicle while traveling east on Route 286 and lost control, police Sgt. John Wasson said.

The vehicle went over the guardrail near Markey's Lobster Pool and came to rest with its nose dipped in the river.

Wasson said the driver, whose name wasn't available, wasn't hurt and was able to get out of the vehicle on his own.

“When we arrived he was already roadside,” Wasson said, adding that the driver was lucky that it was low tide at the time of the accident.

Wasson said the driver may face criminal charges and more information was expected to be released Thursday.
