If President Obama's new budget were a movie, it would be very difficult to find at your favorite video rental location. Some clerks would stock it under “comedies,” others under “horror,” others under “disaster.” We would vote for the horror category for the simple reason that disasters of this magnitude quickly take on all the gory characteristics of the most frightening horror films, and this one is all the more disturbing for having the ability to happen in real life.

Just how bad is Obama's proposed budget? Even left-of-center commentators are trashing it. Take this quote from Washington Post writer Dana Millbank:

“The White House's budget for fiscal 2013 begins with a broken promise, adds some phony policy assumptions, throws in a few rosy forecasts and omits all kinds of painful decisions. Even then, the proposal would add $1 trillion more to the national debt than Obama contemplated a few months ago. ...”

In March 2009, President Obama promised to cut the federal deficit in half by the end of his first term. With the final budget of his first term, he sets the deficit at $1.3 trillion for fiscal year 2012. In fiscal year 2009, it was $1.5 trillion. Worse than that completely ignored promise is what the President wants to do to the federal debt. He proposes increasing it from $15 trillion this year to more than $25 trillion in 2022.

Remember, this is a President who has claimed repeatedly that the reason he wants to raise taxes on the rich is to reduce the federal debt.

There was a TV show once called “The Six Million Dollar Man.” With this budget, Obama becomes The 25 Trillion Dollar Man. America cannot reward such gross managerial incompetence with re-election. Our children would never forgive us.
