A driver is under arrest after being involved in two separate police chases stretching from Manchester to Boscawen that started after a Queen City police officer tried to pull over his SUV after it left a known drug house, according to police.

State police only caught up to Michael Lemire, 35, of Manchester, after they used spike strips three separate times to flatten the tires on his GMC Jimmy and had a police dog chase him down after he abandoned the SUV and tried to run, authorities said.

Lemire was taken to Concord Hospital to be treated for a possible broken arm he suffered after being knocked to the ground by the police dog.

The incident began about 9:15 p.m. in Manchester when an officer tried to pull over the SUV after seeing it leave the area of 92 Walnut St., which state police said is a known drug house, and after it failed to use a required turn signal at Pearl and Maple streets.

Instead of pulling over, the SUV sped up, headed east on Pearl Street and north on Belmont Street, running stop signs as it went .

Manchester police continued to pursue the vehicle along city streets until it headed north onto the Daniel Webster Highway (Hooksett Road) and into Hooksett. At that point, Manchester police called off the chase and Hooksett police, and later New Hamsphire State Police, took over as the SUV sped along Route 3A and into Bow.

A trooper spotted the GMC on Route 3A North in Bow and tried to pull it over but, state police said, the Jimmy continued on, resulting in a second police chase.

Back-up units were called in and spike strips were set out on Route 3A north in Bow as the Jimmy headed onto Interstate 93 North. A second set of spike strips was put out at Exit 13.

After driving over both sets of spike strips, flattening three tires, the SUV still kept going, veering for a short time into the grassy median and hitting about 15 delineator posts.

Back on I-93 North, state police set out a third set of spike strips, which flattened the last tire on the SUV. The SUV still continued on, leaving the highway at Exit 17, heading west on Route 4 to Boscawen.

Prior to crossing the Merrimack River bridge, however, the driver drove into a field where he abandoned the SUV, took off running and was quickly caught by the police dog.

Lemire is charged with operating after suspension, subsequent offense; aggravated driving while intoxicated; reckless conduct; disobeying a police officer; assault on a police dog; resisting arrest or detention, and possession of crack cocaine.

One state police cruiser sustained minor damage during the low speed pursuit when metal debris fell off the SUV and hit its front bumper.

State police processed Lemire on those charges and then turned him over to Manchester police who charged him with reckless conduct, disobeying a police officer, operating after suspension, and failure to use a turn signal.

Manchester police said Lemire gave them an address of 5 Park St., Boscawen, not a Manchester address.. He is being arraigned Friday in Manchester District Court.
