Only in Print: Manchester officials step up healthy eating awareness efforts

MANCHESTER — Coming soon to a corner store near you — fresh apples and oranges, bottled juices, maybe even a granola bar.

City health officials have been taking steps to promote healthy eating by partnering with some of the biggest purveyors of junk food. So far, they have signed up four center-city markets.

The program, paid for through private foundations, seeks to advocate healthy eating and lifestyles in neighborhoods with high concentrations of poverty, a long walk to a supermarket and high instances of heart disease.
