CONCORD - Four men started a fire which helped searchers find them on a logging road in Farmington after they became lost on Blue Job Mountain Thursday night.

According to a New Hampshire Fish & Game press release, three men, all in their early 20s and from Rochester and Wakefield, set out about 5:30 p.m. Thursday from the Blue Job parking lot in Strafford to hike about a mile up to the top of the mountain where there is a fire tower.

The hikers had no lights, backpacks or any safety gear with them and were wearing sneakers, according to Fish & Game.

Conservation Officer Ron Arsenault said the hiking party got “turned around” at some point and used a cell phone to call an older friend, who had dropped them off at the trailhead, for help.

The friend hiked up and found the trio but, at that point, all four became lost and they called 911 for help.

They were told to stay in one place. They started a fire which helped Strafford and Farmington police and fire personnel, state conservation officers and others find them a little after midnight Friday on a logging road on the far side of the mountain in Farmington.
