Strong winds knock out power
Strong winds cut power to more than 16,000 homes and businesses Saturday and blew off a section of a mobile home in Dover.
Public Service of New Hampshire said it had 15,000 customers out at its peak around noon, including 4,700 customers in Nashua, 2,800 customers in Dover, 2,200 customers in Weare and 1,600 customers in Windham.
By early evening, PSNH reported more than 5,000 customers in the dark, including 2,000-plus in Windham and 1,347 in Nashua.
Unitil said about 1,500 customers, including 1,100 in Atkinson and 300 in Concord, lost power at its peak between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. All customers were restored by early evening, according to spokesman Alec O'Meara.
“(O)ur expectation is that the winds will remain strong and we will continue to chase new outages as they occur through the overnight hours,” he said in an email.
New Hampshire Electric Co-op reported fewer than 10 customers without power last evening.
In Dover, a wind gust blew a section of metal roof off a mobile home at 27 Poly Ann Park around 4 p.m., according to fire Lt. Marc Plante. Two people were home, but no one was injured.
A roof over an addition “flipped over on to the main trailer roof,” he said.
Wind gusts of up to 49 miles per hour were measured at Boire Field in Nashua while 39 mph winds were measured at the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, according to the National Weather Service.
