In Maine, you can pick up your prescription medications, a tube of toothpaste, some shampoo - and a bottle of Scotch - at a pharmacy. You can buy frozen peas, dog food - and vodka - at Shaw's and Hannaford, and gin with your gasoline, cigarettes and newspaper at a convenience store.

In Concord, a bill now under consideration by the New Hampshire House would allow the same here, expanding the sale of hard liquor from the state's 77 liquor stores to as many as 1,400 grocery, convenience markets and drugstores.
