Former masseur accused of assaulting woman
SALEM - A former Salem masseur charged with assaulting a woman he was massaging will go on trial for the second time in April.
Xijing Geng, 51, of Flushing, N. Y. could face up to a year in jail if he is convicted of misdemeanor simple assault.
Geng is accused of assaulting a 21-year-old woman on June 30, 2010, by licking her chest after she fell asleep on the massage table, according to a police affidavit.
At the time, Geng was working at Health Power Massage Spa in the Mall at Rockingham Park.
Geng's first trial ended last year with Judge David Huot dismissing a misdemeanor sexual assault charge, finding that the complaints failed to satisfy the legal requirements for prosecutors to make their case.
In December, Salem prosecutor Jason Grosky filed a new round of charges that included three counts of misdemeanor sexual assault and a single count of simple assault.
Huot decided that prosecutors could only go forward with the simple assault charge. He dismissed the three counts of misdemeanor sexual assault.
The second trial is expected to begin April 20.
Geng, who is not a registered masseur, agreed to give the woman a 60-minute massage, police said. The woman fell asleep during the last 15 minutes of the massage lying on her back, court documents say. She told police that she woke up to find Geng licking her breast.
The woman yelled at Geng and he ran from the room, the affidavit said. She dressed, left the spa and called police. Geng, who is using a translator, denied any wrongdoing when he was interviewed by police. He remains free on $5,000 personal recognizance bail.
Prosecutors are seeking a Class A misdemeanor with jail time since Geng is charged with an assault-related offense.
