Fire caused by space heater damages Wilton home

WILTON - A fire that damaged an Abbott Hill Road home Friday night was caused by a space heater, Fire Chief Raymond Dick said.

Dick said the fire was reported about 8 p.m. Friday after someone driving by the 598 Abbott Hill Road home noticed smoke coming out of eaves and vents. He said the fire started in the home's kitchen by a space heater that was placed next to two mattresses.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire, which was extinguished by fire crews from Wilton, Milford and Mason about a half hour after firefighters arrived, Dick said. There were no injuries in the fire, which is deemed accidental, he said.
