CONCORD - The one-time director of Hooksett's Department of Public Works is under indictment on a dozen felony theft charges accusing him of taking a variety of landscaping equipment, generators, a tractor, plow and trailer belonging to the town.

Dale Hemeon, 57, of 8 Cate Road, Hooksett, is also accused of having a DPW mechanic take several town trucks and a crane to a scrap yard in Manchester and then splitting the proceeds with him.

Mechanic Joshua Lacroix, 34, of 21 Lisa Drive, Goffstown, was indicted for theft by unauthorized taking in that case and indicted on a second theft charge accusing him of taking several other town trucks and a crane, selling them for scrap and keeping the profits for himself.

Hemeon, who worked for the town for 21 years and made $78,600 in 2010, was fired in April 2011. Lacroix, who worked for the DPW for 11 years, was also terminated.

According to the indictments issued by a Merrimack County grand jury dated March 16 but released Monday, Hemeon was involved in the scrapping of trucks and a crane between April 10, 2009, and Aug. 26, 2010. Lacroix acted alone in a second incident that took place between Oct. 28, 2009, and Dec. 1, 2009, according to the indictment.

All the other theft charges against Hemeon allegedly happened on March 23, 2011. He is accused of taking chainsaws, a push mower, hedge trimmer, weed trimmer, Billy Goat Leaf blower, two generators, tractor, shelter, aerater, plow, mower, Lesco Slit Seeder and trailer. He took all the equipment for his own use, except for the shelter, which he gave to someone else, according to the indictments.

Hemeon was indicted on five counts of theft by unauthorized taking, all class A felonies; six counts of theft by unauthorized taking, all class B felonies, and one charge of conspiracy to commit theft by unauthorized taking, a class A felony.

Lacroix was indicted on two class A felony charges of theft by unauthorized taking.

Hemeon and Lacroix were both fired as the criminal probe into theft and misuse of town equipment was under way.
