St. Patrick's Day parade Sunday in Manchester

MANCHESTER — The Queen City will celebrate St. Patrick's Day again on Sunday with the 17th Annual Manchester St. Patrick's Parade.

The parade steps off on Sunday at noon where Elm Street meets Salmon Street, and continues down Elm to Auburn Street. Heading the procession as Grand Marshal will be local historian John Jordan.

The parade will include five bagpipe bands, four high school marching bands, a drum and bugle corps and Revolutionary War and Civil War-era fife and drum marching bands. Community groups and public officials are also invited to march the route.

The parade and surrounding events are expected to draw an estimate 70,000 to the city through the weekend. Before the parade, runners will race up and down Elm Street during the Second Annual Shamrock Shuffle. The two-mile race, starting at 11 a.m. Sunday, will begin at the review stand at Veterans Park, go to Salmon Street and return to Veterans Park. About 2,000 runners are expected to race. Parade attendees are encouraged to bring canned goods and non-perishable items to benefit the New Horizons for New Hampshire food pantry.

The New Hampshire Union Leader is a media sponsor for the event.
