Elderly North Hampton man struck by own car in parking lot

NEWINGTON — An elderly man received a head injury when his own car struck him while rolling in reverse Sunday morning.

Newington police said David Carlino, 88, of North Hampton, failed to place his Chevy Caprice in park when he stopped it outside the Macy's store at the Fox Run Mall, got out, and began walking behind the car to help his wife out of the car when it rolled into him, knocking him to the ground.

A witness who saw the accident was able to get into the car and apply the brake, preventing it from rolling any further. Carlino was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with a minor head injury.

Newington police said the accident is still under investigation.
