Manchester garage destroyed in fire

April 17. 2012 11:51PM

MANCHESTER - Fire destroyed a garage in an upscale neighborhood on the city's North Side Tuesday night.

District Fire Chief Al Poulin said firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading to the unoccupied home at 731 River Road or to a neighboring garage after encountering a 'heavy fire' when fire crews arrived about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.

'We were able to knock it down fairly quickly,' Poulin said.

Poulin said fire officials do not know the cause of the fire. He did not know if the fire was deemed suspicious, but city police officers at the scene questioned bystanders to find out if they'd seen anything suspicious.

Nobody was injured in the fire, which was extinguished about 35 minutes after fire crews arrived, Poulin said.
