Only in Print: Army general, 1975 Memorial High grad, revels in his return to Manchester
GROWING UP IN Manchester in the 1970s, Robert Cone, the son of a lower-middle-class factory worker, was “not exceptional at anything,” he said.
Four decades later, he walks with an entourage of Army officers at his heels, and if you look closely at his uniform, you'll see four stars arranged on his breastplate. He is one of only 10 active generals with that rank in the Army today.
