SALEM — Police arrested a 42-year-old Concord man on felony theft charges for wheeling two flat screen televisions out of Walmart separately before being stopped by loss prevention workers.

Police say Richard Kuchinsky was at the return desk inside the Route 28 store with the two televisions when they were called by Walmart loss prevention workers on Thursday at 10:49 a.m.

Kuchinsky was attempting to return two LG 32-inch LCD televisions, each worth $298, police said.

His alleged plan for some quick cash was foiled after Salem police and loss prevention workers reviewed store surveillance footage of him, police said.

The footage showed Kuchinsky picking a TV from the store, placing it in a shopping cart and exiting the building.

He left that TV with an unidentified male on the sidewalk and went back for a second one, according to police.

Loss prevention workers confronted Kuchinsky on the sidewalk outside the store. He told police that he did not have a receipt but planned on returning the two televisions, police said.

Kuchinsky was then escorted back into the store and attempted to return the items, police said.

Store workers scanned the televisions into the inventory system and determined that the televisions had never been sold and belonged to the store, according to police.

Salem police Officer Justin Bagley applied for a warrant and arrested Kuchinsky for two counts of theft by unauthorized taking, attempt to commit unauthorized taking and a misdemeanor charge of criminal trespass.

The felony charges are punishable by up to 3 ½ to 7 years in state prison.

Kuchinsky refused the services of a bail commissioner following his arrest. He is now being held at the Rockingham County jail pending his arraignment in 10th Circuit Court in Salem.
